For those of you who don't remember, in maybe about 2000, we had about 4 or 5 qbs get hurt during the season. I can't even remember all the names, except Zack Clark was one of them.  Nutt went to the intramural fields and got John Rutledge from Searcy (who had admittedly been a walk-on on the team the previous Spring, if I remember correctly).  We were playing Alabama that week.  First drive, Rutledge led us to a touchdown.

He is one of Reynie Rutledge's boys (think First Security Bank).

That was the Ole Miss game. 

Rutledge (under the tutelage of Joe Ferguson) did lead us to an opening scoring drive, after which the genius head coach replaced him with Zak Clark.  Supposedly this was done against Ferguson's wishes, and one of the reasons why Joe tired of working for that shitshow.

Seems we need to fire the recruiting staff and hire the Arkansas sports writers.  They clearly have it figured out and we would never miss a top recruit again.

Not sure if Talley went for 200 that day but he did have a good game. I remember it was cold and rainy. But yeah in the South Carolina game a few weeks before that, we lost Robby Hampton, Zak Clark and Jared McBride all to injuries in the same game.

Pretty sure one of them (I think Clark) came back in and finished the game. We started 4-1 that year and finished 6-5 because of that.

It makes sense to me - he should have thrown it out there. It's an interesting fact and connects his coaching history with successful players that younger players recognize. It might not have made any difference but there's no reason to not use it as a recruiting tool.

It doesn't have to be just about the NIL loot when lets suppose a player is going to get similar money plus be in a situation where the school he's going to figures to be competitive and perhaps the coaching staff is more to his liking.

BOAB is a pretty good site. Seems to be run pretty professionally, unlike every other sports site in Arkansas.

I haven't totally lost it. He did go for 200 and yes Clark played most of the game.
