Why would any individual fan throw money at that tire fire when the UA won't/can't figure out a way to take it from a casino who's trying to give it to them?

The thing with Cal is he's been doing this shit for a very long time he's just saying the quiet part out loud now. He's a natural communicator and salesman so that helps tremendously. Really banks hard on those relationships especially when it's backed by generous donations.

Sam Pittman was asked to sell a vision of Arkansas that's entirely different. An us against the world tiny Arkansuck mentality that was grifted on by the Nutt clan for a decade that many wished for yet again and instead we got a shitty version of that.

Since he was hired the game has changed dramatically even though in 2019/2020 whatever it was already headed in that direction.

Combine a bad economy with a poor product on the field and a coach giving thin skinned answers and this is what you get. Sam Pittman is really only capable of 8 or 9 win seasons IF we dump a ton of NIL for him to piss away. I think that's mostly the mental math people have worked out.

i'm not sure if a football coach or an ad is able to be the mover and shakers in state government that you want them to be.

I agree with that. It goes way above HY to get that done. It's disappointing that seemingly no one at the UA even acknowledged the Saracen offer but were quick to hop on X and let us know about Oaklawn's one time $500k donation.

I agree with this.  But I don't see Oaklawn "perks" as having anything to do with it.  There aren't many "perks"  they have to give.  What, a free day in the Jockey Club?  That's nothing. 

The Oaklawn lobby is strong because of history-- they have carefully courted the legislature and the governor with campaign contributions, etc, for many years.  They are represented by the most powerful (politically) law firm in the state which also has strong political power (think about the Chairman of the BOT, who by the way is a very nice guy I like a lot).

The athletic department literally has not been on the cutting edge or forefront of anything ever.  They are always playing scared and chasing to keep up with our peers. 

We are literally talking about Arkansas missing the boat on NIL and chasing schools like our innovative friends down south Ole Miss.  The same school that was last to integrate.  We are behind the times on the state of Mississippi.  NIL is stupid as fuck, but so are we.
