that post is wrong. pittman doesn't get a one year extension every time he wins 7 games. it was an extension if he won 7 games during the term of the new contract. he got the extra year for beating kansas in the bowl game a couple of years ago.

"In no event shall the initial Term of the Agreement be extended by more than one (1) year or exceed a total Term of six ( 6) years..." 2027 would be the sixth year.

That is encouraging.  I've asked a similar question on pay boards and on X, and no one who responded apparently read to that point in the contract.  Thank you. 

It seems silly to have a contract that basically gives you automatic raises and extensions for meeting the bare minimum standards of keeping employment.

Well, as usual Arkansas zigs when everyone else zags and we look stupid for it.  In this instance Hunter was going to set the standard for new coaching contracts.  Except he didn't realize that Arkansas, particularly one coming off two practically winless seasons wasn't going to have anybody jumping up and down to take the job with a new in incentives based contract.  So we had to hire a fat career offensive line coach a year or two away from retirement.  Then, when he tried to hold us up, we went and gave him an undeserved buyout.

We should have given him a raise.  That's it. Now we're trying to get cheap again.

Here is how you hire a new coach.  You tell whoever it is that we will give you $12 million a year, but no buyout on our side.  We'll review you every year and if we fire you with any kind of record of winning more than six games, you get the salary for the rest if the year, no matter when we fire you.  Everyone is guaranteed at least two years.  After that, reevaluated every year.

So if you coach at Arkansas, you're going to make at least 24 million. 

We've got to get into a sunk costs mindset instead of counting out pennies about future buyouts if we let someone go.  I say we should overpay on the front side to save on the back.
