I would say Brooks Ellis got 120% of whatever he had to give and I suspect his leadership on the field was hugely responsible for the one good year Sam Pittman had.

He never played here when Pittman was HC. He was good his first two years when he was protected by Philon and Flowers then went to shit quick.

Supposedly we are about to get a 4-Star WR from Liberty-Eylau tonight.   Is that where Cobi played?

Cobi played at Texas High.  Texas High has probably six or eight D I players.  A lot of them sophomores and juniors.  They got a junior already committed to Oregon.

And of course Landon Jackson's younger brother plays for Pleasant Grove in Texarkana.  He's committed to Texas, supposedly for big money.  Alleged to be better than Landon. 

And you are right about the East Texas recruiting area.  Which is one thing that makes Jeff Traylor as an option to consider for our next coach.  He's a legend in East Texas, and all the high school coaches love him

Cobi is my all-time favorite Razorback. I believe he was a sophomore when Mallett was a senior at Texas High.

I don't remember it verbatim but one time DJ Williams told a story about Cobi. He said one time they were in the huddle and Cobi was just staring off at the crowd while Mallett was calling the play. When they broke the huddle, DJ says:

"Hey Cobi, you got this?"

"Yeah, man...I got it."

"Ok, then...what's the play?"

"Man, I don't know...I'm probably just gonna run a fade or some shit."

So on the Arkansas board on Tiger Droppings, someone is saying Sam was offered a retirement package yesterday.  Anyone hearing anything?

I had recently heard from someone who knows a few people that they were trying to "kick Sam upstairs" and make him assistant AD.  But this person is part connected (BM donor) and part reads message boards a week after shit happens, so I don' ever know if it is reliable.

Set aside whether he would leave his current job and all that, for the purposes of this post just assume that he would. But if we could get him, would Lashlee potentially be that guy who could some in and get some of that NWA money flowing into the NIL coffers?  Young, exciting, cult of Malzahn...I mean would he be the one?

The problem with both stories is

1. Does Sam really strike anyone as "upstairs" material? Maybe as a glorified analyst...a Bobby Allen type of role. Bobby Allen ended up on Bobby's staff as a recruiting coordinator or something and I think might have continued under Bert. Something where he can leave with a semi winning record saving face and billed as "laying the foundation" but really getting paid for the next 10-15 years a nice buyout.

2. He's got a package...it's called a buyout package. Negotiation concluded.


I assume if/when they push him out there's a good chance they already know who they are going to turn to. The question is would he do it.There are two other choices people will probably hate and both are OCs on winning teams, both improved the schools situations after their arrivals...

The one other OC that was here went somewhere else and has turded it up


I'm not saying we are down to hiring coordinators but if you think about it that's a step up from hiring other teams position coaches.

Promote Bobby to HC/OC with his choice of S&C coach, T-Will to Asst. HC/DC/Recruiting Coordinator, and hire a GM to manage NIL shit. 

Instead we'll hire another SMU staff (at least Lashlee is a far step up there from the last SMU coach we hired) and keep hanging bowl invite banners.

I'm sure that hip has caused him a lot of pain and hell on a coach that's supposed to be high energy all the time. I brought up a few weeks ago but I cannot fathom having hip surgery + rehab and be a head coach of a P5 program...that just seems unrealistic. But I'll plead ignorance as my only real visual of this stuff is from old people that end up never fully recover from hip shit. Anything short of a "minor" procedure assuming there is such a thing I'd think would take months of rehab and tough to get around during that time. Who's going to be in those living rooms? Is it a bad look that the guy recruiting you is rolling up with a walker? Jesus.

We went after Bert for taking an unpaid consultant job when he had offers as a DC.  We would've won the lawsuit had our idiots remembered to cut/paste the language from his state contract into the one with the RF. 

OL coaches with Sam's pedigree are pulling down north or $1MM/year.  I would imagine that would be considered fair market value and something he would have to take. 

Either way, if we want him to leave it's an avenue worth pursuing and a point of leverage to possibly get him down off the final number a bit.  I'm not convinced the people in charge want him gone though.
