Sam's shortcomings aside, this is strictly a money problem.

The UofA's annual excuse for being outclassed on the field since joining the SEC is the paucity of in state HS football talent and--with rare exceptions over the years--that excuse held some merit. However, the advent of pay-for-play and the transfer portal has completely destroyed that excuse. Today's athletes have proven that they will happily go to the highest bidder and will do so on a monthly basis if the rules allow.

Instead of celebrating and embracing this opportunity to finally compete equally with the "big boys" the UofA Athletic Department (particularly football) has adopted a new "we're too poor to compete" excuse.

This is obviously not true; hell, if Missouri, Tennessee, South Carolina and even Mississippi can find the money, there is no reason Arkansas cannot. The basketball program has discovered some deep pockets, why can't the largest revenue-producing program in the UofA system?

Occam's Razor would suggest that lack of interest is the root cause; hence, the continuing presence of Sam and the seemingly endless string of mediocre-to-abysmal football seasons.

there was a nil fundraiser a month or two ago with a goal of $500k (not a huge amount given the current situation). if not for a couple of whales stepping up it would have gone embarrassingly bad. kinda shoots down the "give us a winner and then we'll give" narrative.

I'd say it's probably a 50-50 split. I don't think any high level player is going to want to play for a coach that will get his ass kicked often. Sam will get your ass kicked several times a year. It's the same with NIL giving. Nobody wants to give to a loser.

This confuses me.  In the history games there there has never been an SEC football game broadcast on ESPN+ only.  

Every game has been on either the main ESPN channels, SEC Network, SEC Network Plus OR streamed through the ESPN app. 

Is this the first year where we will have to buy ESPN+ in order to see some of or all of the SEC games?   Historically a fella could not buy ESPN+ and get any SEC regular season game.

I could be wrong but the regioanls will not be on SEC Network or SEC Plus.  These games do not fall under the SEC TV agreement and default to whereever ESPN wants to put them.  Same shit they did for the softball regionals.

If NIL was a thing, I can imagine our NIL coffers would have been as full as humanly possible for the Arkansas program during the 2010/2011 timeframe.  That was some excitement and the money did roll in.  I think we were up to like 8th for program revenue or something like that during that time.  It was crazy.

Correct. We'll be on ESPN+ exclusively this weekend. If we meet TN in the supers then I bet every game will be on the Deuce, U, etc.
