If I'm a defensive coach, I'm wondering if Sam was throwing me under the bus to the AD. 

I mean why is HY telling us this?  Is he trying to make excuses for Sam by blaming the defensive coaches?  Is he throwing Sam under the bus?  What?

But after that shit show at the LRTC, he cannot be allowed to hire the next coach.  Who is going to come work for an AD that doesn't believe in the program?

WHICH sets him up for a power play by a motivated faction of boosters who can answer the AD and coach question at the same time or bring in a coach who wants to be at Arkansas without regard to the AD.  Gentlemen, I give you Rhett Lashlee and possibly the SMU AD.  Or the retirement swan song for Gus Malzahn.

So what plan is proposed to the LRTD club crowd to "put us in position"? Is he saying there is no plan? There is no bullshit vision for the future. 

The last time we were at least in the national conversation was in the Prime Petrino years. That was 15 years ago...not 25...not 45. National relevance is literally within our memory. I realize the landscape has changed but it's changed for everyone else to. What I'm hearing from HY is the same ole same ole tiny Arkansuk attitude only now it's about lack of funds to compete.

I've had this thought about HY really ever since Pittman was hired that their goal is to put the football program on autopilot. Good enough to continually kick the can down the road and play the blame game. Basically the Houston Nutt plan. The goal is to go to crappy bowl games and call it a success each year. This to some degree is some kind of revisionist romantic version of something that happened 40+ years ago about how going to a bowl game really meant something. It meant something because there wasn't 75 bowl games. 40+ years ago we were still expecting to piss excellence on a yearly basis. Today we're hoping to compete with Ole Miss. That's how far the bar has been dropped.

It's frustrating because our leadership is too myopic to see how much easier the path is these days.  Instead they want to poor mouth it.

The path is easy.  We're in the SEC.  Win six games in the SEC and you in playoff contention.  Is that difficult?  Yes.  But we did it with Petrino where the national champion was jn our division.  In today's format, those two teams would have been in the playoffs.  We don't have to worry about national perception, seeding, winning every game, and all that BS that made it so difficult and were BEYOND your control as a team and program.

I understand Arkansas is not going to be a dynasty.  I refuse to  believe Arkansas cannot have a good year and put itself in playoff contention. I think it is reasonable to expect Arkansas to be able to do that two to three times a decade.  And no, I'm not even saying that they make the playoffs that often.  I'm saying put themselves into contention for a spot.

We lost one close game in which the offense played great.  All he had to do was talk about how awesome it is to have Bobby back another year.

It's a tricky thing we have going on with Bobby. He's obviously the only coach on the whole staff that's producing on high level.  That leads to resentment.  I wouldn't be surprised if his relationship with everyone else is not great.

Yes.  I guarantee you that halftime was tense.  Bobby knows more about defensive adjustments than most DCs.

The A&M game we won in 2011 he literally yelled at Willy Robinson how to align and what defense to call at halftime.  We shut then down in the 2nd half.

I'm sure he was hot and told Run on us DMC how to do his job.

While we're at it, can we institute a policy that our athletic director cannot have the same agent as any of his coaches?  That just screams conflict of interest, especially when both the AD and football coach are represented by Satan incarnate.

There is probably still some feelings here but he's enough of a pro to put his blinders on and do his job, probably only offers opinions when he's directly asked for input. That may be often or it might not be at all for all we know. 

Petrino's unit is the only one that seems to look well coached...that much we can take away. Basically there's been seldom indicators that the defense under this co-DC collective has looked "well coached"...same goes for special teams

You don't tell anyone about the "third lane".  Telling everyone is hiding behind you don't have the balls or guts to do whatever it takes to make the football program a winner.

We'll likely have some booster coup of Yurachek (I've been saying he's a performative dipshit who needs to go for years), an unnecessarily drawn out firing of Pittman, and an ego-filled booster-led search culminating in finally bringing Gus or one of his disciples home. Basically a redux of 2017. The media going after him is a clear signal that they've been given the go-ahead by boosters.

My question is this — Why do we always have to burn the motherfucker down when it's time to cut bait with a coach or AD? Why can't we ever have a normal coaching transition?

I'd argue we haven't had a smooth, drama-less coaching transition since Broyles hired Holtz to replace him.

- 2019 - nobody wanted our job, and we got roasted by the coaching community (including dipshits like Dabo and Gus) for firing Chad. HY get lobby by former players to hire a career position coach.
- 2017 -  boosters go Ides of March on Jeff Long, fire Bert, go all out for Gus, get pantsed and left at the altar, and wind up with Chad (on Gus's recommendation, no less!)
- 2012-2013 - Harleygate, Smile, Bert's love letter to Jeff Long, etc.
- 2006-2007 - the Springdale 5 fiasco, the end of Nutt and Broyles, the drama of late 2006/2007, hiring Bobby from the Falcons, etc.
- 1997/1998 - Broyles gets the coaching search taken out of his hands, the committee gets lobbied into hiring Nutt over much better candidates
- 1992 - the Citadel, Crowe's ouster, Ford gets brought in as a consultant and ultimately gets the job
- 1989 - Hatfield's exit and the desperation hire that was Jack Crowe
- 1983-1984 - Holtz gets pushed out, Broyles hires Hatfield (dicking over Jimmy Johnson in the process and thus causing him to  to be bitter at the UA for the rest of his life)

I'm just getting my popcorn ready for the shitshow that will inevitably ensue.

Lashlee could very well be that Gus disciple. 

Although I'm not convinced it won't be Gus himself.  The move to FSU as OC seems to be rehabilitating him along with keeping him from being fired at UCF. 

I'd obviously prefer Lashlee among those two just because of age and recent success.  Either of them could be just what we need to convince a booster or threve to motivate the Six Flags crowd to take up the role of benefactor(s) to the football program much like Tyson has for Cal and the basketball team.
