I'm struggling with this HY commentary still. 

On one point if we're really being honest we haven't been trying to win a natty in several years. Not since Petrino was head coach at the very least and he was more of a happy accident than anything else. I don't think Jeff Long really thought Petrino was going to deliver...hell the guy landed in his lap. Long didn't even really think Petrino was serious. Petrino probably would have never gotten us a Natty given the other competition but he certainly would have got us in that BCS multiple times. 

So you see it's been the "setup" that's been the problem at UA for a long time and that would include our obvious detraction's such as a very sparse amount of in-state talent. If anything NIL/portal should help close that gap because nothing says home like forking over some money to a kid no matter where he's from. Which makes the commentary even more retarded. HY may be telling the truth in trying to level with the yokels in the crowd that we're just not grifting as hard as other SEC schools. This little ole Arkansuk mentality is really tiring and disappointing to hear from the leader of the program.

However you can also make the argument that the difference in a lot of our close game losses of the Pittman era are filled with coaching gaffes and untimely player mishaps that are key indicators of poor coaching. We hired a career position coach to be head coach and knew there was going to be some OJT. We're in Year 6 or whatever now and we're still seeing a lot of the same things. That's fine if you want 6-6. 

We're moving into a post WMS & Cowboys Stadium era...both of those situations were long over due bullshit games. What does that do for us in the long run remains to be seen but it should mean better games in our home stadium that we've spent millions and millions on to play fucking Tulane or whatever. HY's job is show us a vision that can inspire the masses to really give a shit about college athletics in a era of increasing disinterest from fans that no longer feel the spark it once had. There's no connection to the players any longer...pro sports teams even keep guys 3 to 5 years. We're flipping our rosters in every sport pretty much every season as is everyone else. It's a model that's doomed for failure.

It's only doomed for failure in the places that don't win. 

Look at Ole Miss.  They're winning for the first time since the mean old Supreme Court made them start using black players.  As a result, fan interest and contributions are at an all time high.

HY has set himself up for a booster coup and because it will involve a new AD AND a new coach it will be the group of boosters with a ready made solution at coach.  That means it's gonna be Lashlee or Malzahn.  Either will be an improvement, but not ideal.

Yeah, we're only at a disadvantage because our AD spent the first two years trying to fight it instead of figuring out how to make it work, and because our whales have zero confidence in the football leadership. 

Promoting BMFP or hiring either of the two you mentioned would likely provide a significant boost to our NIL efforts.  At least enough of one to where we would no longer lose recruits to peer programs like Ole Miss or Texas Tech.

If we can win 6-7 per year with lower tier NIL and below average coaching, just getting to league average NIL and a coach that is somewhere in the middle of the SEC should boost us to the 8-9 win range most years.

We're in a bad spot.  The boosters have to have input or they won't contribute.  Our other choice is to let a functional retard (Yurachek) hire the next one, and give him a massive, undeserved buyout that precludes us from firing that guy when he inevitably gives us similar results to the current pile of mediocrity.

Let's not forget that a booster delivered Calipari to us, while Hunter was considering Steve Jans and Darrell Walker for the job.  So they don't always get it wrong.

It comes across as excuse making.  When you're the one in charge of fundraising, blaming our problems on a lack of money in a public forum isn't a good idea.

Losers make excuses. Winners find solutions. 

I'm not smart enough to figure out where it went, but there has to have been some fuckery going on with the RF finances for us to be as broke as we supposedly are.  We went from being able to afford damn near anything any coach asked for, to being too broke to pay $3MM/year for 5 years to buy out an underperforming coach, while revenues are at an all time high and still going up. 

From the outside the most likely sources of our newfound poverty are probably...

• too much admin expense
• paying down low interest debt ahead of time while rates have gone up   
• sending too high a percentage of revenue to the academic side relative to peer schools

You're right.  We absolutely cannot fire both Hunter and Sam at the same time.  That guarantees at least one and likely two bad hires.  I'd prefer to send Hunter packing and bring Sam back for one more year if we have a choice.  Unless the plan is to party like it's 2010-11 again, we're going to be competing with a glut of comparable or better jobs if we fire Sam after this year. 

The time to fire Sam was after last season, when we would have been one of the top 1-2 jobs available.

Nutt would be a figure head at best. He wasn't driven to work hard and piss excellence several years ago... doubtful he would be different in a AD role. 

Head of RF or something like that may not be out of the question. The guy is old and really just likes his ego stroked. 

Overall I tend to agree about it being a mistake to fire both at the same time. Ultimately it'll be a situation where if Pitt is 6 wins again you keep him, fire Hy
