We are kind of caught in this thing where we don't want another "suit" to be AD but we also need someone skilled and a full grasp of a modern college athletics program from a stand point of raising NIL and all that stuff. As others have said recently and this has been a big concern of mine for a while as well...we have two competing factions for donations between our collective and the RF and limited in how funds are distributed by state law etc. The way the program is currently set up is a recipe for mediocrity and until that is resolved thru legislation the problem won't be resolved.

The question I'd have to ask is how differently are we set up as opposed to other SEC programs? If we are that different then why aren't we doing everything we can to join the pack? If the great limited factor of this program is literally because of state law then one has to ask why hasn't anything been done. I have to assume there are those benefiting off the situation.

Get a real GM.  One that is there for only football.  Let him run the football program.  Let him deal with NIL personnel decisions and all that.  Make that guy actually responsible for hirings and firings.  Then get an AD who is a glad hander and fund raiser.  Should be separate anyway.  The skill sets don't necessarily go well together anyway.  An excellent manager and fundraiser are not often found in the same person. 

But all if this will require the commitment of funds and we will have to restructure things.  We need a state law change or we need to make the football program a completely separate entity with employees who are not state employees.  Let it rent facilities from the university and so on and so forth. 

I think this might actually be the kind of stuff HY was talking about when he said we are not "set up" to compete for championships.  We are heavily reactive and waaaaaay behind the curve. 

But the crux of it is that it is stupid to expect an administrator to manage something as different and as diverse in interest as women's volleyball or whatever and football.

Why not just put Scanlon in charge of fundraising and give him a percentage?  You want people to produce, give them a reason.

Separate LLC allows us to get around state law and pay coaches market rate without relying on Razorback Foundation.  Let that LLC do seat licensing, merchandise licensing, and so and so forth.  Hire people who know the business from professional organizations like the Cowboys.  Put it in charge of every aspect of the men's revenue sports.  Let the other sports shift for themselves.
