Texted a buddy group that today. A defensive guy would be a nice change.

Quote from: animal on Sep 30, 2023, 04:48 PMAt any rate if you were looking around trying to figure out who the next SEC coaching opening was going to be from...I think you can look no further. Perhaps if we beat Alabama Saban will go out in the parking lot and light himself on fire.

Edit but the Florida coach is trying his best to be their Chad Morris

Saban on fire in the parking lot would coach us better while on fire, while intubated in the ICU undergoing a skin peel, and while hopped up on pain pills in rehab than the current bunch.
Oak Grove in the house.

Another elephant is, who are we going to have playing for us next year. The portal works both ways.
Well, shit...

How many guys on this team do you really want to keep?

Hasz, TeSlaa right off the top of my head. Not many others.

Quote from: Trigger7672 on Sep 30, 2023, 04:45 PMA 62 year old coach who peaked over a decade ago and has a sub .500 record his last 4 years as a HC? Yeah I'll pass.

Then take the bet.

Meanwhile he'd be the best hire we've made since Bret, or arguably since we hired him.

Is there any doubt he would've carved A&M up today had he been on our sideline? I mean its pretty bad when a guy in the booth on the other team is better than the HC on your own.

Certainly and likewise. You can bet any incoming football coach is going to be unafraid of cleaning house after what Deion did.

Quote from: Son of Spam on Sep 30, 2023, 04:40 PMI think, as far as Bobby goes right now, he would be a hell of an OC. I think being a head coach is a little late.

And obviously Bobby is fine with working under a dipshit.

dan lanning? - current with a perennially top 15 program that sits on literal a mountain of nil cash. yeah, right.

mike elko - a career position coach in his 2nd season. sure, why not try that again.

petrino - lulz. never going to happen as long as yurachek is ad.

Gotdammit you guys are a buncha naysayers.

For sure though, if it ever went south with Petrino, which it could, as the AD who hired him you're gone too.

Somebody will take the shot though.

piglosopher

For sake of argument, Petrino is an impossibility because of (current) University policy to not rehire a once fired employee.

Bobby nearly beat us with FCS talent last year...he can still coach when he wants to. I'm not convinced he wants to be a head coach of a D1 anymore though. He's much better not having to worry about recruiting and can just focus on carving you up. And while we are waxing philosophic over this...his offense turned it over twice and had a few other flubs that any other competently ran team would have taken advantage of.

He was all packed for UNLV after the season and someone made Jimbo hire his ass that's how far the star had fallen. We'll see what happens the rest of the way. Johnson is going to be turnover prone and their talent didn't really wow me. We tend to make everyone look super good.

That all being said...you bet I'd love to have him back despite the misgivings of the last Louisville stint. I would take my chances especially with the portal being a thing...all it's gonna take is some believers in the program and the wallets will come out.

I'd take Armstrong over Teslaa. Teslaa has not gotten open one time this season.

Can either of those guys come back next season? I was thinking one or both were grad transfers but maybe not.

this has been brought before and completely ignored by some.

Armstrong is a junior, not sure on Teslaa. I'm with Son of Spam though, Hasz would be at the top of my list. I'd take Sategna too because that kid is a big play waiting to happen we just aren't using him enough.

It was incredibly ballsy to come into the season with two transfer wide outs from D2 as your "go to" guys and surprisingly neither is the "problem" with the team. The one from FBS hasn't really shown up much (Broden) and of course we lost Mbake to injury who might have gotten on the field. Sategna I think is a play maker but he's also really fucking small. Bryce Stephens and that Wilson dude have completely fallen out of favor. Dozier will be ahead of them before the season is over.

I haven't been impressed with Teslaa since we hit SEC play. Armstrong has been solid. That Dozier kid is gonna be a good WR too.

Petrino showed what the program is capable of, and he did it at a time when it was possible to be both #3 in the SEC-West and #3 in the nation simultaneously.  If Joe Adams doesn't catch a bad case of the skillet hands we might have a 1-0 record in BCS games.

The Petrion ain't coming back, but anyone we interview should be forced to watch videos from those years to understand where the bar currently sits.  Sam came in when no one else wanted to risk trying to resurrect us from the Chad stank.  He did that and he did it during a difficult covid year.  Thank him, move on, and tell the next guy the standard is the BMFP years.
