It's not silly to think the chief executive in a self-sustaining department should be able to control the budget of that department.  If he doesn't have that authority he should. And if his boss doesn't trust him with that authority then that person needs to put someone in the AD position that he does trust.

Throughout our history, when the academic side gets involved in athletics it turns out badly.  The thing is, there is no benefit to the university from football being terrible.  A strong athletic department and great academics are not mutually exclusive.

Robinson seems like an impressive guy.  I hope he doesn't tarnish his name by trying to destroy athletics the way John White did.

I disagree.  The academic side shouldn't be able to direct athletic funds any more than the Razorback Foundation should be deciding how the College of Engineering spends its budget.


The chancellor, BoT, etc should not dictate how any department head spends their operating budget, as long as those decisions meet these conditions :

1. Doesn't embarrass the university.  Losing does this, replacing, a failed coach does the opposite. 

2. Doesn't put the school in legal jeopardy. 

3.  Doesn't require more money from general funds to be added to that budget.

Obviously the chancellor and university president have final say so.  But they shouldn't be interfering in personnel matters unless one of those conditions are being breached.

Basically Pittman got a pass. Not a two year pass, ala Nutt, but this year is a pass. Pittman gets to try again with an OC hire, though he'll probably just keep what he has.

Will he fire the OL coaches? The ST coach? Probably he'll just make excuses like always.

I appreciate being told by the director of Arkansas athletics that I don't need to care about Arkansas athletics as much.
