Being a AD at a place like Astate, has gotta suck. If you have a good hire and they do good they're gone, rinse repeat. A decent AD would be spending most of their time hiring coaches.

At any rate it's going to come down to NIL situation and overall commitment to the program and there's probably no reason to leave Ole Miss unless it's a real upgrade. I know nothing about Houston's NIL situation, Sampson is a helluva coach and when he leaves that program could take a dive but I could see some quasi attraction to Houston in the future for someone like Beard. Seats at Houston and Tennessee are bound to open in the next couple years as both of those coaches are getting pretty old. 

A place I'd think would be able to compete for (pay) players is Ohio State like they do in football. But they haven't really pissed a drop in a while now. Ohio State hasn't been relevant in basketball since Matta's prime years in the 2010's. Had no idea who their coach is but apparently it's some young guy cut from the Bryce Drew cloth. And right now that's not exactly moving the needle.

College basketball is just not very big in Ohio outside of probably Cincinnati or Dayton. This is a football state and a pro sports state. I never hear anyone mention college basketball unless they're filling out a bracket, and even most of the diehard OSU fans I know couldn't tell you the basketball coaches name or how the season went. Browns, Buckeye football, then the Cavs when they're doing good like this year.

Word is buzz is trying to get out of aTm, tried to get Xavier and now is hoping that he is hoping to be the guy if Maryland opens.

Is he a nomad like Muss or what? Given all the angst Willard has said about Maryland regard for hoops, it is a total crap shoot to take a job not knowing who the AD will be especially when you are not his guy. Then again if he tried to get Xavier than Aggie can't be all that.

Of course if he does leave you know Aggie is gonna go hard for Beard.

It is interesting that Muss' name has not come up at all this off season. Guess 2 straight shit seasons will do that.

That Villanova job is going to pull somebody out of a decent job so a feller like Buzz could potentially slide on into a decent "basketball school" if that's what he's looking for. Right now it's looking like he's doing just enough to not get fired but I'm gonna guess maybe A&M isn't leaping to give him a new contract.

One article I was just reading has Porter Moser looking for an exit as well. I don't know that OU will shed any tears. Chris Collins is a rumored candidate for Nova so if Northwestern opens I could totally see them going for Moser in that Chicago era he did really well.

Rumor is Nova doesn't provide much NIL. I've seen Buzz mentioned for Maryland but they have the same problem. aTm thinks they are better than they are.

I'd say both coaches made or will make the right decision there. Idk on Buzz. He just seems to jump around every 5-6 years. A little strange since he is a Texas guy and atm grad that he'd leave for Maryland but I view Marquette and Maryland as better than atm basketball but can't blame him for wanting to leave va tech to go "home." Texas always >atm. And I will never question anyone's reasoning for wanting to leave atm.

I was today years old when I learned that Buzz Williams is not the Buzz who was a point guard at North Carolina in the 1980s. I have thought this about him ever since Virginia Tech.

I'm guessing the reason he's wanting to leave is A&M's football program is sucking up all the NIL money.  Apparently, the same thing is happening to Nate Oats and the basketball program at Alabama.

The "College Basketball Crown" starts tonight. 16 teams and I gotta admit most of them are bigger names than the directional schools that now make up the NIT. But not necessarily better teams, because losers such as USC and Colorado (and I assume many others) are there.

Here's an idea, if this piece of crap is a good idea and it doesn't start until now, why couldn't they invite teams that were in the NCAA Tournament but lost? Especially bigger names that went out earlier than expected.

There appear to be no rules in the NCAA anymore so what the hell.

I think a lot of those teams in it have had opt-outs, transfer portalling, injuries, etc. If anything, it's one more chance for players on your shitty team to show out for better programs. If I was a coach I wouldn't accept a bid for that reason.

Layden Blocker will be playing in it tomorrow. He's already announced he's returning to DePaul.
