In fairness to Pittman there are a good many head coaches that their undoing was coordinators moving on and they are left in the wilds to figure the shit out on their own. Having a former head coach there to lean on is going to be an enormous help especially when it comes to how to organize the entire program which I'm guessing needs some attention to detail. Bobby has already said he will install the offense and even managed to dig in that it WILL be a 100% by the first game.

I hope he's not referencing our shitty o talent and planning only six plays.

It is a good move. I see no downside. Ignore those who say that Petrino must be shunned for all time. It's cruelty to punish him for life.

Petrino served his punishment. Time to move on from that old issue IMHO.

If Sam really wants to win me back let Petrino have a segment on the coaches show diagramming and explaining his beautiful offensive mind.

Is there a concern among some of the faithful that Coach Pittman harbors some personal dislike of this new situation? Perhaps he feels that his pride or prestige is harmed? His Ego is bruised, perhaps? My take is that, if Coach Pittman were a young coach, sure, he would harbor such negative feelings. I'm kind of an old guy. Coach Pittman is like me in that respect. If I were Coach Pittman, my view would be that I'm not far from my last day of coaching at this level - because I am OLD. I would welcome Petrino's entry on the stage and I would welcome his energy and enthusiasm and skill. Makes MY job a bit more easy! AND if my W/L record as head coach in 2024 is not pleasing to the folks that rule Arkansas Football, and they decide to put me out to pasture, well, I'd be glad that Arkansas would have a strong candidate to replace me already in the building.

Does Sam Pittman have some level of personal pride that would be an obstacle to trying to make this arrangement work? I don't think so. Not at THIS stage of his coaching career.

Like most everyone here, I don't know Pittman personally.  But I think he is breathing a sigh of relief.  The monkey is off his back, at least for the next couple of years.  In fact, he may be happier about this hire than we are. As he should be.

I second this.  I loved watching the guy break down and explain plays.  It was very informative while at the same time making me realize I knew even less about football than I realized.  And I don't claim to grasp much more than the basics.

I'm going to bitch about this once. Since the accident, we were told how there was no choice except to fire Petrino. Lawsuits, lying, University policy, etcetera about why. Smug, condescending, holier than thou fans and administrators claimed there was no alternative. Those of us who begged to differ were childish and just didn't understand how things work.

It was all bullshit. We fired our best football coach in two generations during his prime years of coaching. We endured over a decade of football abyss as a result of this decision that should not have been made. Now our lame duck, retirement aged coach who never had a prime is hiring a retirement aged OC who is past his prime.

I like everything about Pittman except for the fact that he isn't SEC head coaching material. I love Bobby Petrino. I think he is a football genius.  I'm going to buy tickets to watch them play next year. I really hope this works. Everyone of you fucksheads that said he couldn't coach here were wrong, and people that think like you were in charge of firing him and they are responsible for destroying our football program while we were competing for SEC championships. Everybody who thought that has a looser mentality and we lost because of it.

I hope it works.
