Maybe I'm wrong but it felt like at the time Jeff Long was being talked about as being chairman of the BCS committee and he was looking to score integrity points and boy did he ever cash in.

Long was a snake who thought he was a lot smarter than he was.  Whatever HY is or isn't, he seems to he a genuine dude who seems pretty upfront in his dealings.

Quote from: red death on Nov 30, 2023, 06:08 PMThe Nutt sycophants, I know some who hate Petrino to this day with a passion, wanted him gone.

The university wanted him gone.  I know someone who worked in the department.

The smear campaign was orchestrated by the university with all that spin about lawsuits, integrity, lying, blah blah blah.  The spineless press ran with it like the good little lapdogs they are.

Yes, we knew it was bullshit.  There's no one on this board that is responsible, we were all calling it out 12 years ago.

Petrino got fired because in their eyes he was too powerful.  There were powerful factions worried about that.  We see right now his sway and power over the state.  To those whp were in charge that was a threat and had to be managed.

Not coincidentally that's the same thing that got rid of Nolan.  They sabotaged that man in the athletic department the entire time he was here.  This may sound crazy, but we've had people in our department who didn't want a winner.  They wanted someone they could control.

Bullshit.  There were many on this board saying we had to fire him or there would be lawsuits and such. Many.

Yeah, I'll second that.  I remember it well.

technically it was that other board as this one is still a baby. Also there were a lot of people that died or just went to prison saying that.
So there's that
Yep. I'm not trying to be a dick about it. It could have lived. It didn't. Not by my choice. -Elvis

If the old board was around, I'd be quoting myself for days saying I told you this didn't need to happen.

I was referencing the people here now not the torn labias from the old board who tried to kill it.

My allergies kicked in when he got slightly emotional when asked if he rooted for the Hogs after he left and said he loved the players.

I hope like hell he still has that dog in him to jump somebody's ass and get the best out of them.

I just consider this board to be a newer, better extension of that board...HRW never forgets or forgives.

There were a lot of people throwing out legal opinions then.  From what I remember the premise was that since Jessica was hired by the Athletic Dept over other candidates while they had a relationship that was the issue, and that if she had remained a foundation employee it was all good.

The whole way that incident happened with the cop posting on here, showing off, and later got fired, etc - so weird.

I feel like anywhere else that was easily covered up.

No sense in rehashing all that, I guess. Hard not to still be pissed.

We aren't allowed days like yesterday without repercussions.
As someone the same age as Petrino, at least volleyball butts won't be our downfall this time. While I still consider them superior to most, they've lost considerable power over me in the last decade. I certainly wouldn't risk getting on a motorcycle with one.

RE: BMFP Firing

Well for the record I was against it from the start and even more so as the years have gone by watching all these dullards lead this football program. I do believe I agreed it was grounds for termination or some kind of severe penalty...a suspension something like that but ultimately saw it as a stupid decision fucking with your money maker. That money savings and integrity move undoubtedly cost the university millions in lost potential revenue. Add in the multiple scandals at other schools since then that make the Petrino-Harley scandal sound like a...simple traffic accident.

Moving past that don't know that people really understand how this all works and maybe I don't either but asking coaches to explain how they came together is mainly pointless. Sam and Bobby are not fishing buddies. Of course agents got involved if for no other reason than for contractual things happening and maybe Sam not allowed to officially talk to Bobby until he was officially free from his employer.

In that press conference it sounded like Sam was fixing to start talking about coaches leaving but then he stopped himself. Anyway he did say something like "we aren't done". Also found it somewhat interesting that Bobby claimed none of the A&M assistants had anything to do with the NIL and the way things are organized at Arkansas I take it to mean everyone does? There was no follow up question to that...of course. This makes me curious what is standard at most programs...I'd think there would be a small contingent of people in the know and that's it. That is like a "Front Office" type thing.

"and was part of the reason Texas A&M fired head coach Jimbo Fisher for underachieving this year."

Yeah, Bobby is one of the reasons as to why Jimbo was fired.  What a dumb as shit take.

The Whyte Boar

Hootie isn't wrong, but unlike Hootie was, I don't think Sam is planning on being our coach in five years or maybe even two.  I think Sam wants to win and then go to the lake.  And even if he does, he has to win.  And if he is still here even in two years, that means he won enough to get there.

In short, yeah Sam is desperate, but it is a different kind of  desperation than Hootie had.  Sam wants to go out a winner.  Hootie was trying to hold on to his personal fiefdom and feed his ego.

I think Sam would be fine if he goes home a winner in s year or two and Petrino takes his place.  It's all subject to change or I could be wrong, but those are my thoughts on the differences.

That article has a lot of cherry picking of Petrino's bad years, hand-waving of his good years, and some misleading (if not outright false) statements about his time at A&M.

Houston Nutt isn't wrong that Bobby is more popular than Sam. This never happened for Sam...

I'm sure Nutt remembers how 2006 went down, and Sam is nowhere near as politically powerful to undermine Bobby the way Dale did Gus.

From the article...

"I think he's likely licking his chops knowing that Pittman's status is shaky and that with a good offensive season, he could get his old job back."

I keep seeing this stupid ass thought.

Let me get this straight.  Retards think that if the offense does great, which means the team will most likely do great, Hunter is going to fire Sam and give the HC position to Bobby?  People really think that?
