I'm going to bitch about this once. Since the accident, we were told how there was no choice except to fire Petrino. Lawsuits, lying, University policy, etcetera about why. Smug, condescending, holier than thou fans and administrators claimed there was no alternative. Those of us who begged to differ were childish and just didn't understand how things work.

It was all bullshit. We fired our best football coach in two generations during his prime years of coaching. We endured over a decade of football abyss as a result of this decision that should not have been made. Now our lame duck, retirement aged coach who never had a prime is hiring a retirement aged OC who is past his prime.

I like everything about Pittman except for the fact that he isn't SEC head coaching material. I love Bobby Petrino. I think he is a football genius.  I'm going to buy tickets to watch them play next year. I really hope this works. Everyone of you fucksheads that said he couldn't coach here were wrong, and people that think like you were in charge of firing him and they are responsible for destroying our football program while we were competing for SEC championships. Everybody who thought that has a looser mentality and we lost because of it.

The lawsuits angle was always stupid.  It was a $50k a year job.  If every applicant was found to be better qualified and therefore entitled to a year's salary (and that never would have happened), BP could have covered it with his salary through about May or June.  They could have handled any threat or lawsuits by making him sign an indemnity agreement with the school.

The way I see it, we're talking about a stepping stone job where people stay 1-3 years and either move on to something better, or wash out of the industry.  Like you said, it paid $50K per year.  From what I recall, there were around 30 applicants deemed to have met the posted qualifications.  Some of those undoubtedly would have been eliminated for other reasons, ranging from poor people skills to chronic body odor to the threat of corporate espionage (one candidate was a recent OL from LSU - think BP wouldn't have had concerns?). 

Contrary to popular belief, from what I've seen judges don't just hand out McDonalds coffee judgments like $5 off oil change coupons.  Assume the damages as two years of salary for every "qualified" applicant and you're at $3MM, or like you said, 3/4 of a year of BP's salary.  I guaranfuckingtee we lost at least ten times that in foregone donations/ticket sales, buyouts to poor coaches, and brand deterioration. 

Shifting gears, I wonder what the Venn diagram looks like between the "we HAD to fire him" crowd and "has a gay son they don't speak to anymore because Jesus" and the "disowned your daughter for having a biracial baby" circles.  I would imagine there is significant overlap.

Just saw a video of Bobby, speaking on reels, where he says that Jimbo wanted to keep his own terminology and so it was hard to learn and install the offense. Here, he says he's going to be installing it with its original terminology. We will "learn it three times" and be ready for opening kickoff.

It was obvious from game one this year that A&M wasn't running Bobby's offense. Granted, his playcalling changed a lot between Arkansas 2011 and Louisville part 2. He had Lamar Jackson and ran a lot more RPO stuff.

But at Missouri State is more like 2011. A lot of shotgun, but plenty of under center stuff as well.

That's what I expect to see, but I guess it depends on who our QB will be.

It wasn't illegal and no lawsuits could be brought on those grounds.  There simply was no case.  Also, if there was a case and damages, firing him did nothing to change those damages.
