Hootie isn't wrong, but unlike Hootie was, I don't think Sam is planning on being our coach in five years or maybe even two.  I think Sam wants to win and then go to the lake.  And even if he does, he has to win.  And if he is still here even in two years, that means he won enough to get there. 

In short, yeah Sam is desperate, but it is a different kind of  desperation than Hootie had.  Sam wants to go out a winner.  Hootie was trying to hold on to his personal fiefdom and feed his ego.

I think Sam would be fine if he goes home a winner in s year or two and Petrino takes his place.  It's all subject to change or I could be wrong, but those are my thoughts on the differences.

You think if Sam has back to back 10 win seasons he will retire?  If he wins the NC he will retire?

Why would he do that?  And why would HY do anything but throw the kitchen sink at him to keep him as HC?

One additional thought...

If the Hogs don't win enough over the next two years to save Sam, I don't see a scenario where they give the job to Bobby.  Why would they? 

This is a "ride together, die together" relationship for those two guys.

Let me get this straight.  Retards think that if the offense does great, which means the team will most likely do great, Hunter is going to fire Sam and give the Hac position to Bobby?  People really think that?

I imagine most people think/hope Sam goes to the lake on his own or is gently nudged out the door.

And yeah, I don't think Sam will be here in two or three years regardless of what happens.  It would be nice if we have enough success that Petrino seems to be the logical choice.  If it doesn't work, they'll probably both be out of a job.

Well, he isn't doing that and I don't think Sam has ever shown enough desire to work hard enough to sign up for another five years when he'll be 65.  That would put him in Saban territory as far as longevity.  Have you ever heard Saban talk about cobeer and hanging out on a party barge?  You can't do that working fifteen hour days.

I'm sure Nutt remembers how 2006 went down, and Sam is nowhere near as politically powerful to undermine Bobby the way Dale did Gus.

It never made sense to me for a team to fire a staff for underperforming, then hire a guy off that same underachieving group to be the new head coach.  I'm sure there are instances where it worked, but it seems like backwards logic. 

The only scenario I could possibly see where Sam fails and BMFP replaces him is if it goes something like last year, with a solid to very good offense losing games because of a bottom tier defense and inexplicable decision making by the head coach.  Think losing a bunch of 34-31 or 42-40 games because Sam went for it on 4th and 7 from the 18 yard line instead of taking the FG and things of that nature.

Many sportswriters, especially the older ones still in it as a career, think that anyone making $100K per year or above is "rich", and there is no real reason other than evil greed for anyone to choose a job paying any more than that.

They are consciously trying to make him seem human.  Find me an example of him mentioning it or even entertaining a question about it in a business press conference.  The lake house interview I remember most was one where he talked about having a pool the entire time he had been there and not having stepped in it once in the first five or ten years because he was too busy.

I try to hire people better than me at the stuff I'm not good at. And I hope they are absolute rockstars doing it. It makes them look good, me look good, and makes my life easier. I want those people. There are some leaders who don't want to be overshadowed. Hell, I hope they kill it and keep moving up.

I don't really think Bobby is angling for the big chair anymore, but on the same token he's probably not turning down the gig if it's offered in a year or so. I think he's being honest when he says he wants to teach football and be part of it all again. He loves that part of the game. 

Sam would be unwise to not implement whatever the fuck Bobby tells him too, but on the same token Sam knows well enough that he's not some scrub his own damn self when it comes to coaching. Maybe Sam needs to be reminded of that. The two may be oil and water off the field but I think they'll speak enough of the same language of football where they won't really get in each others ways.

If I was Sam I would ignore all that shit people are saying and soak up all I could in terms of running a successful program. Maybe we already have "that guy" in place but it sounds to me our main people are a bit lost in terms of NIL...we need some people in place that really understand it well. By that I mean get every edge we can and make it look ethical.

From this point on I'm more curious if Bobby is making the hiring decisions on the offensive staff or not.

Another thing Bobby said when he was trying his damn best to convince everyone that he's not the head coach but Sam Pittman is...he kept on and on about short yardage plays and critical 4th down calls and all the other stuff. Basically it's everything Sam is terrible at doing but Bobby basically said that's the head coach making those decisions...

It's those in-game decisions that have cost us ball games and anyone with eyes and ears knows it. That has to be recognized and fixed. Bobby can make Sam into a much better front man than he's been up to this point.
