Quote from: PHARMHOG on Dec 01, 2024, 10:25 AMPutting PA in 7A was extreme overreach and overreaction to their success. It is wonder Cobb was able to make it the whole season.

FWIW - I am not a PA guy.

They finished in the top 4 of 7A so it's hard to argue they don't belong there.

I am somewhat of a PA guy and I agree.

There is no guarantee that any school should keep winning titles when they move up.  Honestly they probably fit better at 6A, but they acquitted themselves pretty well given the disadvantages they faced.

PA belongs in 6A in my opinion.  They also have a numbers disadvantage, but most games were competitive.  Greenwood and PA are pretty damn similar as far as their success and have played some fantastic games over the years.
PA is at a considerable disadvantage in football numbers compared to 7A teams (1800-2000 vs. 350 in 10-12th enrollment). This disadvantage mostly shows in the backups. PA was playing a 9th grader at 2nd string RB (he's an outstanding 9th grader). Not many teams have a 10th grader seeing the field, much less a 9th grader.
Oak Grove in the house.

I saw that RB play against Benton's 9th grade team.  He is very good.
The very pants I was returning.

I was impressed with them against Fayetteville. I think they can hold their own in 7A but let's be honest, Bryant is just at another level.

Lucas > Kelley.

He runs the same system but isn't ideologically married to it to the team's detriment.  Plus he's not abrasive.

Quote from: dhog on Dec 01, 2024, 07:36 AMElkins' game wasn't as close as the score might seem (2 scores). It was their last home game and now must go to Mills for their semi-final game. Still playing well but lost a few starters and looked banged up Friday night. Defensive backfield was vulnerable and may get taken advantage of at Mills. Btw, Mills has a freshman at QB that's suppose to be phenomenal.

You're right. I was there and Elkins was up 42-10 after three quarters. They let Malvern get some late touchdowns against backups.

HOGSRUNWILD

Quote from: Hogfan58 on Dec 01, 2024, 07:07 AMIt's based on enrollment, but it doesn't make sense to me because you can have teams in the same district playing in the different divisions. Also, there are schools (hello Highland Park) that ensure that they get in certain Classes/Divisions by manipulating their enrollment. I'm sure they are not the only school that does it.

Southlake turns their palms up and says "Not us"...

That's a good win. I figured Mills would win it.

Greenwood beats Shiloh 61-35 to win state.

Interesting stat, Kane Archer finishes season w/ more TDs (57) than incompletions (56). 2 interceptions.
Pants ironed and back for more

Southlake has scratched out scores in a variety of ways, including 2X blocked punts for TD, to come back from being down 0-14 to now lead 42-24 late in the third.

Southlake scores again to go up 49-24 and Guyer answers back in 2 plays to cut it to 49-31.  Southlake better keep scoring as they aren't stopping them very well.

Southlake marches it down the field again and scores to go up 56-31.  Moving the ball against this defense is impressive.  Guyer supposedly has 3 D1 commits on their D line.

Guyer marches it down the field again and scores to cut it to 56-38 with 6 minutes left in the 4th.

Wheels falling off now.  Guyer scores to cut it to 56-45 and then recovers the onside kick with 3:50 left in the 4th qtr.  Epic collapse is happening.

Defense stiffens and gets a turnover, not back on offense and trying to kill off the remaining 2:28.  Another first down hopefully will do it.

FINALLY.  Got a first down and should be able to run it out.

Now, on to the Semifinals where they will likely be sacrificial lambs for whoever wins between DeSoto and Longview.

Semifinals 4 times in the last 5 years isn't bad at all.  Unfortunately, we usually end up facing teams with more 'Natural Talent'...and that is hard to overcome.  I'm not sure Southlake has any D1 commits.

That greenwood team was unreal. Offense and defense
Credit to Shiloh for being the only team that greenwood didn't mercy rule (both meetings) this year.

Would love to see greenwood vs bryant

I wish GT would troll them for walkons to keep a connection going.

The QB they got last year hasn't played yet but the OL is a stud (Harrison Moore), played a lot at guard and looked good doing it.

I don't know how walkons work now because the scholarship and roster limits are the same.
Splash 11! drop ABE track, too confusing
