NIL does not guarantee anything.

How does a program with the most expensive roster in college football (reportedly $20 million in NIL money) lose to a five-loss Michigan team that looked inept most of the season?

The announcers said at the start of the game that Petrino would be calling the timeouts on offense, TWill on defense.  So if you want to bitch about it not being called, it's on BP.

Personally I think he was trying to get a chunk yardage play, and he was saving it for the next play into the end zone.

no one should be talking about guarantees.

it sure as hell gives you a better chance than those who don't have it. how can anyone dispute that?

Not really.

For those of us who follow the program closely, yeah, it's embarrassing the way we're losing these games, but for the national media, we're a six-win team that upset #5 Tennessee. We're going to a bowl. blah blah blah.

I think he held it in case Green got sacked.  It's a miracle he didn't, so it wasn't an unfounded concern.

Coaches have less impact on what school a chooses than ever before. Kids will go where the money is.

We are not going to win in HS recruiting. Too much of a disadvantage. We can win by spending big in the portal.

I thought about that. Unless they changed the rule for this game timeouts still have to come from the head coach, so the difference today would just be who relays that to the officials.

Either way, Bobby should have used it whether Sam was calling for it or not.

Hatred is one helliva motivator.

Barton Fink

Does everyone agree we have significant disadvantages in recruiting? (especially HS)

It's also well known that we have one of the poorest NIL collectives in the SEC.

Given those 2 things, if you agree with them, what are your expectations?

To me, given those 2 things we are a 6-9 win program tops. I don't care who your head coach is. You are not gonna compete at an elite level unless you can match the talent of your opponent every week.

After 32 years in the SEC we are a 6 win program. That's reality. That is not gonna change until something DRASTICALLY changes.

And no one's going to open their wallets with SP at the helm. Right, wrong, or indifferent, that's the way it is.

So we'll be here this time next year, with 6 5 wins, and you and Sam and HY will be right. It was the fans fault because of lack of support, aka, not opening our wallets.

Doc Hogaday

I think if there is no better plan in the works (spoiler alert: we are Arkansas, and there is not) you have to get rid of Sam and promote Bobby to HC. Assuming he wants it and that it can be legally done. There's been so much nonsense about that I don't know who to believe, but if they want to, I'm sure there is a way to work around it.

Bobby will bring discipline if he is in charge. If a player keeps fumbling, their ass will be on the bench. If Green is not better than Singleton or KJ Jackson during spring ball and fall camp, fuck Fletcher's money, Bobby won't play favorites. Players will finally fear the head coach again and that is what we need right now.

He is not washed yet. Hell, we are 4th in the fucking nation in total YPG among P4 schools. With THIS offensive line and THESE players. If you don't see the players we have running wide open and still just completely miss it because of an R-word quarterback, I can't help you. And who knows where we'd be without missing those big plays...much less leading the fucking nation in fumbles?

Rhetorical, I guess...9-3 or better.

Yes, he was blessed with an incredible class coming out of Arkansas high schools in 2008. That's not happening this year. But he always had a gift here for finding rare gems in 3-star talent elsewhere due to a lot of things (measurables, comparing players vs the level of talent they were playing in HS, some other shit, things of that nature) he would explain during those old "Signing Day in the Rock" deals they held. And the portal is a whole new world for him finding those types of guys among G5 schools and maybe a couple of other kids like Drew Sanders or Sorey that are good and just want to get playing time. That wasn't a thing when he was back at Louisville.

Spend the majority of NIL money on the line on both sides of the ball and let BP find us some skill positions.

Next year is going to be tough for anyone. Saban or Urban Meyer could show up tomorrow and we would still struggle to get bowl eligible with next year's schedule.

ANY consistency (as much or as little as that means in the current landscape of CFB) would go a Long way. Hiring Odom and him keeping Bobby on would help some with that, but I'm not sure that excites anyone or increases NIL or enhances recruiting/portaling.

It was a play by the PTB to band-aid the apathy that was there last year by hiring Bobby as OC. I am unsure that there is a better move on the table right now than for them to do the same by making him HC this year.

I hope there is but this is all I gots. Next year's coaching carousel is going to be brutal, and we'll be nobody's darling after our 2025 schedule.
Pants ironed and back for more

Barton Fink

If we fire Sam and hire another coach and keep doing the same shit we will be right back here in a couple years. We will likely even dip the first year we have a new coach. Much like Moo St

We can't JUST fire/hire coaches and think it's gonna change. Thirty two years tells you that's not gonna happen.

Barton Fink

Doc, solid points all around.

petrino's last two stints as a hc ended badly, he lost the team both places. that was before nil and the open portal too. that gives me a little pause.

there's zero indication pittman won't be back next year. i'm not sure how petrino will feel about being in the program after next season if it's going to be as bad as some of you think it will.

there's as much of a chance he just takes his money and leaves than him being hc imo.

Cornhogio

If we were to bring Odom back why not let him bring that OC prodigy he's got at UNLV.  I'm aligned on NIL being heavy on the lines.

Barton Fink

Agree as well. I think he's at his best as OC. I would be extremely surprised if we have a new HC and they retained BP as OC. Even if it is Odom. I also think it's highly unlikely his replacement would be as good.

No thanks. The Oc prodigy will leave and then we would be stuck with a head coach that doesn't like to recruit.

Blows my mind that we're parsing keeping Pittman for ANOTHER year, given the known. Meanwhile the only coach in the last 20 years to get us to within the top 3, and 5, for a few weeks...scoop and score!...is walking the sidelines as our OC.

"But does he still have IT?"

We're such a retarded fan base.

Barry Odom never won more than 8 games at Mizzou. That's no better than Pittman. Is that acceptable? Why would we up our NIL for someone with similar results.
