And thank you for agreeing that simply throwing more money around doesn't guarantee results. Funny how that works.
The Lord wants you to put your foot on their balls and believe in it. 'Cuz that's what wins football games. Not jumping offsides like a bunch of wimps and faggots. I don't care what those pinkos over in Russia say. You want to be a loser? You go live in Russia. I'm a winner. I'm an American.

Quote from: DirkPiggler on Dec 01, 2024, 11:13 AMTheir power structure correctly assessed that Luke wasn't doing what he could with what he had, and brought in someone they thought would do better.  It wasn't without risk...Kiffin had failed at a powerhouse before.  There was no guarantee lane would be any better.

The bold part is exactly why Sam will never pull the coin on NIL.

As to who we should hire, I think it's like the old Supreme Court ruling about porn:  "We'll know it when we see it.".  On the range between "wow, that's a home run hire!" and "what the hell is he thinking".  I think it's likely we'd get someone who we collectively think "well, I didn't have that one on my bingo card, but let's give it a shot".

Taking a slightly different tac, shouldn't Yurachek have a a list of people to call in case he needs a coach?  Hell, maybe he does.  I'd sure like to see him knock the dust off of it.

Neither does hiring a new coach. Like TWB said nothing is guaranteed.

If you don't want to spend money then don't complain when we're 15th in the SEC in recruiting and we're poking portal players from D2 and lower D1.

I want to spend money.  First on a competent coach, and then on players.

Well, call me when we have a competent coach. We've had one in my lifetine and he had to beg for the job and just so happens to be on our sideline today.

Dude, I'm not disagreeing with you. You act like the entire fanbase is dismissive of the need for NIL but you seem completely dismissive of needing a good coach. Like all we need is coordinators. That's crazy to me.

Both things can be true. We need more funding AND we need a better coach. It's chicken and the egg. I tend to agree with Dirk and others that the money simply isn't coming in for the status quo. We need to try again, but as you said, nothing guarantees success. I just don't like the attitude of not even trying.

No, there are some things that are guaranteed.  It's guaranteed that Sam is a loser and anyone giving money this program with him in charge may as well set it on fire.

Also 100% true. We're a fucking jinxed program.

When the powers that be at Arkansas realize that spending more money on players than coaches is the way to win, then things will change.

And YES, start on the offensive and defensive lines. RBs and WRs are a dime a dozen.

The fact that we have made bad hires in the past does not mean we should stop trying to hire better ones.

We have to be smarter, and not do the equivalent of a coach recruiting simply off Rivals ratings.

Bielema was a great hire on paper.  His system wasn't one that lent itself to winning in this league, and he relied heavily on the snowbound equivalent of JFB as a shadow coach.

Morris had one redeemable quality (Texas recruiting ties) that our PTB let obscure or excuse his horrible record at SMU.

Pittman was a bit of a panic hire once Lane and Sexton fucked us.   He's been better than he should've been, but hit his ceiling fairly quickly.

We need to avoid one-hit wonders.  No guys whose entire resume is coordinating for a legend like Saban at a place where it's easy to win, although experience as a SEC assistant is a plus.  Focus on people with an actual plan that fits our situation and works with our challenges.  Don't be afraid of someone from a lower level if he won big there and fits the other criteria.  Lean towards the hungry 40 year old over the well-fed 60 year old, ceteris paribus.  And while Arkansas ties shouldn't disqualify someone, they shouldn't be considered bonus points either.

Perish peacefully in a warm environment.

Not sure those stats really tell the whole story though...

It can also be argued that just because a kid is signed by an "FBS" team in today's world that could be anything from Arkansas to UCA to ASU to UAPB. I'd wager Arkansas' stats in this area are impacted by this. Conversely look at Missouri...I think they got Missouri and Missouri State and I'm not even sure Missouri State is an FBS school I think they were that lower level when Bobby coached there...a lot of the others I believe are basically basketball schools. I'm probably not thinking of somebody. Warrensburg (Central Missouri State) is basically Henderson North. SEMO maybe? The KC area has UMKC and a bunch of community colleges. Saint Louis has a few basketball schools and little else. Northern Missouri has a lot of farm land and Amish people that have never heard of football.

We back in olden times when I went to high school in Missouri the rassling was more appealing to those people than football.

Completely agree but that doesn't mean we shouldn't try something new that has yielded success at other schools. The "I'm not gonna give my money till we fire the coach I dont want" is only pushing us further behind.

If I heard Vickery right in 2026 programs will be able to pay players thru the athletic dept. I haven't heard that anywhere else. I know some of that legal bullshit is gonna be resolved by then. To me reading the tea leafs and literally HY's statement he put out...their plan is to kick the can down the road and get right financially before making big moves. Now of course he's gonna spin like "We really love Pitt and his six win ceiling!!! GO HOGS!" Please send money.

I like Sam and I think a lot of people do but a lot of us can like somebody and also be objective enough to realize this dude is not going to do anything as head coach. Keeping somebody because "we've had worse" is no way to run a business. Maybe if he gets his health right he'll be a bit more high energy and whatever. I'm willing to let this ride for another season provided we do have staff continuity and that roughly translates to player development and getting more better guys. Armstrong's replacement is not on this roster. I think we can probably go down a list and say the same things so there's going to be some major needs coming in from the portal.

I'm not chirping.  I'm telling you Sam is a fat loser.  He is done.  He can come back next year and we won't win more than five games and we'll be one year further down the shit hole and we'll have one more year of more apologist losers telling us it's our fault and we can't expect to do any better.

Right now we have a frustrated fanbase. We are performing at the same level for over 30 years. Everyone thinks they have the answer. Obviously myself included. I just hope the university and fanbase at some point can come together to put the best product on the field. That goes for players, coaches, DJ's, etc.
