Ed O had the number 1 overall pick and two of the top five WRs in the NFL right now. Chizik had a future NFL MVP. Those guys needed generational players to win big. Do we really think we're capable of landing guys like that with Pittman running the show? Even with a large uptick in NIL money I don't think so.

I still think (maybe I'm stupidly optimistic) that we could land some NFL-caliber skill players if we have coaches capable of preparing them for that.  Any WR that buys into Petrino is ready to run the routes.  Any QB whose brain functions well enough to understand coverages and route trees has a chance. 

With Pittman I had hoped that we'd have that production at least on the O-Line, maybe even the D-Line.  But we don't... not even a concept of a plan for how to build that kind of line.

Then how do you compete against the teams that are loaded with NFL talent with a team that has 1 guy that might get drafted (Armstrong)? By doing what, out scheming them? We have a top 5 OC on staff.

I'll ask again, if we had spent more money on Oline talent and brought in a QB like Gabriel over Green, what would our record be? We likely run the ball even better. Give up less sacks. Better protection for a QB that makes far less mistakes. For a team that clearly lost 3 games due to turnovers.

What coaches (HC/OC/DC) do you bring in that give you a better chance of winning 3 more games and why?

150% agree with you here. It can be fixed with talent but this has been Pittman's biggest disappointment. I think BP did a helluva job to have a top 10 offense behind our Oline.

Of course, elite football teams require excellent coaching and a deep roster of excellent athletes--particularly at the skill positions but even a mediocre coaching staff and 3 star athletes at skill positions can have decent, 8+ wins/year teams as long as they have excellent linemen.

If I was King of the Razorbacks, I would do whatever it took to secure 2-deep SEC/NFL athletes on both sides of the line. Lean on/blackmail big money boosters to sell that second vacation home, private jet or third Mercedes. Sell a kidney, raffle tickets, Girl Scout cookies or meth. Hell, sell Girl Scouts; just do whatever it takes to buy an O-line that can consistently open holes and protect the QB without a plethora of procedure/holding penalties and a D-line that can stop the run and make QB's moan when the helmet calls a pass play.

Do that consistently and the elite skill players will come. Throw in a competent coaching staff at some point and you just might have a championship team if Lady Luck favors you.

Great question. I'm guessing QB (Underwood kid supposedly getting $12M from Michigan), Oline, Dline, and DBs get most. Not sure the estimated amount for each. In no way shape or form do I believe 1 college player is worth $12M.

@Barton Fink if Bobby leaves does that change your stance on keeping Sam for another year?  Your idea of continuity and getting better players for Petrino has merit.  But if we have to hire a new OC, change systems, etc wouldn't it make more sense to start over with a new HC as well?

Exactly, but shows the risk you take if you don't go in the early rounds.  Makes it worth it to come back and shop around if not an early rounder.

Absolutely, I think Pittman's standing water is BP and William's. Have to see who he'd replace him with but it's likely a downgrade.
