Quote from: Doc Hogaday on Dec 01, 2024, 06:24 PMSam's ego probably doesn't like Bobby around, but both Sam and Yuri know they are fucked if Bobby leaves. To the tune of a half-empty stadium next year and a decrease in NIL.

I believed Bobby when he said he was fine just being an OC last year. But I can also see how a year under "aw shucks" and a lazy approach under Sam pissed him off enough to want complete control again. Whether it be here or elsewhere. Hopefully here.

Maybe he is making a power move. The fanbase overwhelmingly supports him more than they do Sam and it has been clear to everyone over the course of this year. He knows.

I could see this being the case.
Perish peacefully in a warm environment.

Arkansas was a top 10 team year in and out with a bigger disadvantage in recruiting than we have now. It wasn't easy getting to Fayetteville either. Since Hatfield we've hired exactly ONE coach that was a good coach/hot commodity. One.

I've wondered if that would turn out to be the case ever since it was announced that we were bringing Bobby back.  Never believed that it was all Sam's idea.
"That's embarrassing.  Looks like Josh Duggar when his parents asked him to babysit."

For $7 mil I'll put a webcam in front of my shitter so I can answer fan questions while I drop the Longhorns off in College Station.

Once authored a post that critics claimed, "Was notaslibro level."

Yeah, well they're letting black kids play these days.

I think we will find out fairly quickly whether BP has been guarenteed that he is the HC-in-waiting.

His name is going to come up in other HC and OC vacancies besides Charlotte and I don't see him passing up a good offer with Sam almost certainly going to be gone by this time next year unless he has been a$$ured that he will replace Sam.

We were Top 10 with Holtz and sometimes Hatfield.  Arkansas is good to great with good coaches.  Mediocre with mediocre coaches.  And bad with bad coaches.

Broyles, Holtz, Hatfield, and Petrino were good to great.  Nutt was mediocre to borderline good at times.  The rest have been bad to mediocre.

Our offense didn't score as much as they should have due to discipline and mistakes.  The plays and yardage were there with tons of room for more.  Our OFFENSE was good, we just shot ourselves in the dick and a lot of that is mental discipline and toughness and that 100% starts and ends with the head coach.  It isn't just gameday decisions, it is how they run practice and the entire tone of the team.  If being lazy or sloppy is OK in practice, it is ok in the game and that is how you bumblefuck your way through a year and end up 6-6 when you should have been 8-4 at worst.

I know I'm not the smartest guy in the world, but I honestly have no clue what you're getting at here or accusing me of.

If it's obvious that we aren't firing Sam, which it kind of seems to be, the best possible scenario would be BP coming back and getting another year with the offense, assuming everyone doesn't transfer out. That's far from an endorsement of Pittman, just a reality of our situation if he's staying.

Plenty of offense is good, but could be a lot better in this review.

If you don't want to watch the entire thing, at least get through about the first three minutes.

On that 4th and 7 early in the game, Petrino had designed a formation to essentially hide Hasz in the snow, outside the numbers. He was wide ass open, and it would've been an easy first down. Instead, Green threw the ball over the middle and Sategna got outmuscled for an incomplete pass.

Barton Fink

That's been the case a lot this year.

Maybe I'm naive but I have a hard time believing a Petrino led offense practices lazy and sloppy.

We lost most of our games because players made mistakes. You can't solely blame that on coaching.

Oh, I know it could have been a lot better.  The playcalling has been outstanding as we have dudes running wide the fuck open all the time and just can't get them the ball.  I know that also falls on coaching, but the playcalling has been there.  I do wonder if who plays and who doesn't isn't 100% in Petrino's control..

The only problem I have with that is it's the same mistakes we've been making for 5 years with completely different players.

This.

Different players, same mistakes.

First it was guys like Trelon Smith and Warren Thompson. Then it was guys like KJ and Rocket. Now it's Taylon Green, Dubinion and others.

When you have different players making the same mistakes, that's a coaching and  accountability culture issue.

These are the mistakes you see with every single coach that is lazy and doesn't have attention to detail.  Since it spans lots of assistants, you can pretty clearly say it starts at the top.

Barton Fink

Do you really believe a kid at a P5 does not know how to protect the ball? We see practice clips where they run through pads and do strip drills.

Dubinion is a great example. He's had problems since his freshman year. Do you really think no one has preached to him and worked with him on ball security? Some guys are just more prone to fumbling than others.

If there is any blame on coaching, it would be thet we aren't physical enough in practice and no one knows if that's the case.

Know how you fix it? You run practices HARD and fast and get used to the physical that you will see in the game.  Also if you fumble, you are doing stadium stairs until you wish you were dead.  Then if it happens again, you never see the field again.  That is how you fix it.

That would take discipline and attention to detail coming from the top with real repercussions for failure to do your JOB.  That comes from the top and isn't "Oh Gosh".  We don't have a head coach that demands excellence.  We don't and it shows.

We're gonna lose one or both coordinators.  Entirely predictable.  So the only possible justification for keeping Tit Boss is gone.  People and events don't just sit back and wait for plans to unfold.  They have their own plans and reactions.

So, next year we are likely to have a six year coach with a losing record on his 4th OC and maybe third DC in six years.  And after another year of futility and possibly going back to Chad Morris type success, we'll be looking for a coach along with a whole shit load of other programs.

If my kid wasn't up there, I probably wouldn't ever go to another game.  I just can't handle this sort of acceptance of being worse than mediocre.

flash23

Not necessarily saying you're wrong about it also being a player issue, but I think you got it when referring to practices. Petrino was pretty notorious for having brutal practices where mistakes just weren't tolerated. I don't think Sam high fives after mistakes, but he comes across as way more of a "hey, don't worry about it, you'll get it next time" type of coach. I could be wrong, but he's always been a players coach who loves his kids. He's not perfectionist.

Barton Fink

I fail to realize how many times one must be told to secure the ball and how to secure the ball. It's a 10 minute discussion. Then you go through the drills every team does every week to practice it. If someone at practice fumbles, I promise you a coach jumps his ass about it.

Our OC is Petrino. He's responsible for the offense. Do you think he's like "Well kid you shouldn't have lost the ball, Can you please try a little harder next time?". Fuck no
