Quote from: Borenutz on Nov 26, 2024, 09:35 AMMaybe the point is that these schools (ole miss, ATM, etc) are spending way more in NIL than we are and getting moderately better results and all going to be out of the playoff picture.  I know some are just going to be darksiders no matter what and the same folks likely would be if Kiffen were here and we were spending on NIL and even getting those results. Obviously, we'd all like to have those "disappointing" 3 loss season as the floor, but this is literally where everyone thought we would be this year and possibly better if we scratch out another win. Definitely not a Pittman hugger or hater, and I expect better results. Not saying we should be ecstatic over 8 win seasons, but if we end up with 8 this year, I would consider that better than expected. Regress next year and make a move, improve and build on 8 wins with outside playoff chance and one year closer to Pittman retiring and attracting a top level coach. Just don't let yuri do something stupid and apply the golden handcuffs to one of the oldest coaches in CFB that no one is courting

I always find it funny when people use the 'We won as much as expected' as some type of defense of Pitman when we win 6 games.  I mean, the reason expectations were so low is BECAUSE of Pitman.  Not saying that is you, just when I hear people say things like "when the season started most predicted 6 wins tops" like somehow Pitman has done a great job...I mean, they predicted that because of him and his record here.

Quote from: vegashog on Nov 26, 2024, 10:06 AMimagine raising 8+ million like ole miss and not winning the sec or making the playoffs. our fanbase, if they ever helped raise that much, would be in full nuclear melt down regardless who the coach was.

Doubtful, because they would have held some hope during the year.  Just like years we don't make the CWS in baseball while having the best support in the nation.  It happens, but we know we will be in the hunt year in and year out.  With Pitman, you could throw top 5 NIL money at him and does ANYONE think we are getting even top 10 results?  Not a fucking chance.

I'm just continually flabbergasted at our fanbase.  We're like whipped dogs at this point.

That's what the PTB want for us Plebs. Fill the stands, buy shit and be happy with mediocrity. Don't expect better, because they will not put the money or effort into being better.

Yeah, I don't think Pittman gives us any distinct advantage or disadvantage with his specific coaching acumen vs his NIL support. You're going to get what you expect most of the time with the quality of players he's getting. Some of that may be even by the quality of coaches he surrounds himself with, which is why last year was a complete disaster.

If this article is accurate, I'd say we fall about in line with our NIL efforts this year. Some schools are drastically outperforming their NIL support (SMU,Boise) and some woefully underperforming (FSU,Florida,OU) but most are falling in line.

This is an interesting point. OM is 8-3 and we are 6-5. That's just a 2 game difference. Where is that 2 game difference? Is it in the coach or the players?

Someone ought to track wins against teams spending more than you.

G. Tech has a couple without looking too hard.
Splash 11! drop ABE track, too confusing

I think you could give Kiffin our team and Pittman his, and Kiffin would whip the shit out of Pittman's "new" team.

I've gone back and forth on that. Taylon and turnovers caused the loss at OKState. A turnover and then awful personel decisions cost us the A&M game. But we've also been making the same turnovers, penalties, and late game collapses throughout Sam's entire career, so I'm leaning more towards coaching. All his original staff and players have left but nothing has changed.

That pretty much means Kiffen is no better with his talent than he would be with ours. Meaning he would make our team as good as the one he has. Yet he has much better talent at OM.

I would argue his talent isn't that much better, but that the real gap is coaching ability.

leaving the pittman vs kiffin debate aside, this is patently false.

walter nolen, dart, princely umanmielen, tre harris, jaerd ivey, jj pegues, and probably a few more will all be drafted. a couple of those in the 1st round.

But OM lost at home to a KY team that is worse than us and to a FL that is probably our equal to us. Isn't that bad coaching? At least that is what has been said about Puttman. It has to go both ways.

Id argue they are two games better due to talent.

Correct, OM wasn't everyone's darling pick in preseason due to Kiffen. It was the talent they brought in.

You keep trying to make this black and white. It just isn't.

If it were, Ole Miss never would've lost to Kentucky because who would argue that Kentucky has a better coach OR better talent?

A case could be made that Florida beat Ole Miss because of better overall talent, but it also happened because Ole Miss's considerably more talented quarterback made a really bad throw and because of a mixup (bad coaching?) on another play that led to an interception.

Barton Fink

Actually it's the opposite. My point is everyone wants to fire SP thinking a new coach will provide better results. Nothing in our history or in these examples proves that.

It's not black and white that firing SP is gonna make us any better.
