It will be even worse next year if he is fired.

Players will go where the money is. Who the coach is less of an impact than it ever was.

So you're solution is to fire our coach. Probably lose our OC/DC. Lose the top players we currently have and try to convice portal players to come to a school that just fired their coach and lost their best players AND we don't want to pay you as much as the orher SEC schools.

You want to know what that is gonna look like? Go take a peak at Moo State's record this year. That will be us next year.

Quote from: Barton Fink on Nov 27, 2024, 03:12 PMKiffen is not gonna replace Pittman. We NEVER had a shot hiring him last time.

We fire Pittman and we are hiring Odom or some coach at a smaller program that everyone will bitch about. In doing so, we lose one of the best OC's in the country and a pretty damn good DC. We will also likely lose the players we want to keep. Then we will try and convince players in the transfer portal to cone here where there is no indication thet we have what it takes to win. New coach. Shitty roster. We will be worse next year. Are you ready to accept that?

Odom hired Petrino to work for him at UNLV, before Jimbo backed up the Brinks truck.

I'm sure Barry would hire a new DC since their philosophies seem different.

Regardless, you can't make personnel decisions based on fear of failure.

I agree Sam's decision making hasn't cost us a game this year, but it cost us plenty the two previous years...especially 2022.

I just don't see what you (and apparently Yurachek) see out of Sam's performance to make you think he would be the guy to get the most out of a more talented roster. Maybe the next guy would be the same or worse, but it's not like we're losing the next Saban or Smart by letting Sam go.

Doubtful.  When your coach is the definition of average, you probably have a 50/50 shot of getting better the next go around.  Especially if the new guy is someone the big money people will get behind.

The best part is we don't even have to win it to print a banner.

Suppose that we do hire someone else, and we do have a down year in the transition...maybe 4-8 instead of 6-6.  That happened when we went from Nutt to BMFP, so it could certainly happen if we cut ties with Sam.

Wouldn't it be worth losing a couple more games in year one to potentially go from averaging 6-6 to maybe 8-4 going forward?  As opposed to keeping the steady 6-6 guy and not having that upside?

It's been said many times on here that even in the down year of BMFP's first you could see the team evolving into what Petrino wanted it to be as the season went on.  Where is that evolution now?  What has changed from Sam's first season to now?  More specifically, what has changed for the better?

The OL looks a little better.  They're still behind on talent but look to have a marginally better idea where they're supposed to be.

That group may simultaneously be the most improved and the biggest underachievers on the team.

I'm hitching my ride moreso on our coordinators than our HC. Maybe SP hasn't cost us games this year because we have Petrino. I'm pretty sure Odom wouldn't hire Petrino who spurned him after 2 weeks. Odom and whoever he would have as coordinators would not have a higher ceiling than what we have in place today.

Barry fucking Odom isn't 2 games a year better than SP I hate to tell ya.

Yeah let's risk getting worse just to get to where we are. It's the Arkansas way! Instead of spending money to bring in better talent that has a much higher likelihood of being successful.

I'm not convinced Barry wouldn't be better. He did OK at Missouri pre-NIL.  The concern is recruiting, but it's not like Sam is excelling in that regard. But unlike you I'm not convinced we'd make the safe, easy hire like Odom.

I think Barry understood Bobby leaving for an extra million per year, but I could be wrong.

We are more likely to get more NIL spending with a new coach than we are with Sam.  Fairly or not, people are down on Pittman and don't want to throw good money after bad.

I'm just tired of losing. We keep firing coaches every few years with the same or worse results. Except Petrino who happens to be on our sideline and has proven that if he gets elite talent he can win big here. Yet, we don't want to give HIM money to get better talent because we dont like SP. To me, that's a loser mentality.

I get it, but I don't think anyone here can move that needle other than obviously HTL.

Pittman is tethered to his coordinators, unfortunately. We saw that. We saw what happened when Briles left and Enos came in. We saw how the team looked when Odom left, it lacked decisiveness.

BTW, Odom wasn't great his last year here either. Our best players were newcomers, not the guys he recruited or developed.

So what the point is, we're still in the same vulnerable position in the nonzero chance Petrino or Willams moves on whether or not we keep Pittman.

HOGSRUNWILD

If Sam doesn't fire Fountain, he can get fucked and drowned in that shitswamp known as Lake Hamilton.

I doubt Petrino bolts if he is compensated well and we give him the talent to win.

I agree that Pittman is teethered to his assistants but is that a bad thing? If you have a great OC calling plays, you have a solid DC calling  defense, your NIL money brings in the best players, what do you need from your HC to be a top tier team?

It cuts both was I think. Dabo and Orgeron also were. They won national championships yet their star has fallen considerably.

Assistants move around a lot, it's just the nature of the beast. Main point I was trying to make every time we lose a coordinato, we have a start over anyway (albeit a smaller one)
