By no means should we have lost the game but people forget that the Citadel went 11-2 that year and nearly won the I-AA national title. Were the No. 1 team in I-AA for a month.

Again, no excuse, but it's not comparable. North Alabama hasn't had a winning season since like 2018.

Same.  Unless we get lucky with another Petrino type head coach from the up and comer ranks we're stuck competing to be the top of the bottom tier at best.  Any guy with that kind of ability is going to see through Yurachek and pass on our job.  It's going to take a winning lottery ticket type of hire to get us there. 

It all flows downhill from the coach.  NIL is a tool for the right guy - not a cure all.   I still firmly believe that a coach who even showed glimpses of getting us back to 2010-11 level would motivate a flood of contributions that would at least get us back competing with the Ole Miss types.  We saw a flash of this when Pittman got off to a good start, but he couldn't sustain it and people pulled back.  Donors saw KJ and Rocket get paid massively and come back fat, dumb and happy and decided not to let this group light any more of their money on fire.  You could have given Pittman the Texas NIL collective and he'd have found a way to mess things up.  Same for anyone else we've had except Petrino 1.0.

With our schedule I think the magic number for Silverfield to build momentum this year is five wins.  That would include at least two nominal upsets.  Follow that up with 7-8 wins in 2027 and I think we'd see even further growth in our financial resources.  Note that I'm not expecting any of this...just laying out what it would take for him to rebuild the program to at least competence if not occasional relevance.

I admit that it is world-class coping but, for the upcoming season, I will be satisfied if I see every player hustle through the whistle on every play, every available defensive player swarming to the ball carrier once contact is made, fumbles decreased by at least half (season total 14 in 2025), TO ratio on the positive side (-11 in 2025) and penalty ypg decreased by half (67 ypg in 2025).

None of that requires superior athletes; all it requires is concentration, discipline and relentless emphasis by the coaching staff. Do those things with a religious fervor and good things will come in time.

Yup. That's why I don't really bitch about football anymore. It is what it is.

One of the lexicon things of Arkansas football in particular was this notion that we will get those once every 5 years or so "generational talents"....this state does not produce near enough talent year in and year out and now with competing NIL we've been getting our asses handed to us there as well. The old staff was clearly not going to pony up and in some cases probably was right to do so (Crutchfield)I don't know that we've really missed out on anyone major lately but if the new coach doesn't have it together then it'll only be a matter of time before we miss the next DMAC. Where Arkansas must do better at is identifying the Drake Lindsey's that are right in your back pocket and you fuck it up.

Nutt and really Petrino both competed by finding those guys that were overlooked by...the Tony Bua's of the world that are out there and that's the flip side to what I said above it's not just the generational talent it's the glue that holds it together and keeps us in games...that's been missing for a while now.
