Read an SI/All Hogs AI slop article the other day and it tried to say that this season was going to be like 1998.

Said that Nutt won the most games as a rookie head coach for the Hogs. It's like, nah, Lou Holtz won 11 in his debut. Then the editor tried to backtrack and say "well the writer meant in the SEC era."

In 1998 -- AI slop article or not -- the Hogs had a roster.  I do not believe that reality currently exists.

That 1998 team had several juniors that already had a lot of snaps, the defense was probably one of our best we've put in the field ever since consisting mostly of home grown/Texas talent. As far as Nutt goes...for the time he was what the doctor ordered. We needed someone to come in and give that program a shot in the arm and he did that until later on when he got lazy and happy with his previous accomplishments mostly with someone else's players. Arguably Tuberville would have done the same thing but probably would have had more meaningful program building later on.

Nutt was basically a Terry Bowden clone but didn't cheat nearly as good. In hindsight I would have liked to have seen Ford come back and see what he would have done with the 98 team but I don't think anyone anticipated that we would be in the national conversation late into the season, the antithesis to after Petrino everyone thought a retard could take us to a national title with that team.

My gosh we were so close.  Can't beleive that was 16 years ago.

This was the loudest moment in a game that I've been to. It happened when we drove the ball, down their throat, the length of the field in the 4th quarter. With 6:57 left in the game (21:50 on the video) LSU called a timeout and a spontaneous hog call erupted like I had never been a part of before or since.

There are kids in college up there now that aren't old enough to remember those years. Unreal. We had it all. Bobby didn't even have to win a natty or an SEC trophy to put up the best seasons in my lifetime.
