When I lived in NWA I had seats on the east side at midfield about 12 rows up. The 4 seats next to me were owned by someone who also had a box. The old boys who usually sat there were continuously going back and forth to the box to "reload" and consequently were all drunker than lords by halftime. The worst offender sat next to me and was so fat he overlapped onto my seat. During those afternoon September games his face was the same shade of cardinal as his shirt and he would be panting, sweating profusely and knee-walking drunk.

I lived in dread during those games that he would have a cardiac arrest and I was going to have to try to resuscitate him...which meant he was going to die.

Thats when you play your "I'm just an OB, do we have an ER doc or a EMT nearby?" card.

Not really related to the heat, but I seriously curtailed my gameday drinking after watching the family in front of us when we were on the East side near midfield.  It was a pair of grandparents, probably in their 50s, with a young grandchild.  By the second quarter papaw was passed out cold sitting up.  The poor little kid kept shaking him saying "Grandpa...wake up!" and crying his eyes out because he thought something was seriously wrong.  It would've been funny if not for the kid being so traumatized and having to go through all that. 

I didn't want my kid, who was about the same age at the time or a little younger but not with us, to see me in that state, and Lord knows I'd been close at games more often than not.

Fuck a 3:15 kickoff.

If they want to fix the in game experience, why not move kickoff to 6 pm?   Why play the game in or close to the hottest part of the day?  Seems simple?

I'm pretty sure the university has very little input on kickoff times anymore.  ESPN spreads them out so there aren't 10 games all at the same time.

If they want to fix the in game experience, why not move kickoff to 6 pm?   Why play the game in or close to the hottest part of the day?  Seems simple?

I understand how we think it works.  Arkansas is playing on the SEC Network which they have a dozen channels of.  They can play that game at any time and have broadcasing flexibility.  Fuck the schools for not standing up for the fans who attend.

It's all about the dollars.  ESPN pays lots and lots of them so the schools get in line so they keep receiving as many as possible.

I get the argument.  But the arguement doesn't hold water.  

I get playing on ESPN/ESPN2/ESPN OCHO.  Those channels you make a sacrifice for.  

When Arkansas plays on the SEC Network, the game is going to be viewed by virtually the same amount of eyeballs at 3:15 as it would at 6:00. ESPN isn't losing money on an Arkansas game that starts at 3:15 vs 6.  Especially when the opponent is North Alabama.  Outside of Arkansas fans, which don't move the broadcasting profit/loss needle, nobody with 2 brian cells is skipping the primetime 6 pm game to watch ours.

The entire thing is outrageous, egregious, preposterous!

Correct. The only game time the university can set, is the one game a year that's streaming only and not on linear TV. This year, that's the Tulsa game, and the university set the kickoff time for 7:00 pm.

All other home games are set by TV:

3:15 for North Alabama (SECN)
11:00 am for Georgia and LSU
7:00 pm for Tulsa (SECN+...set by the university)
Tennessee, South Carolina and Missouri will kickoff at 2:30 or later.

I grasp it just fine.  I know why we think ESPN do what they do.  It's stupid is all I'm saying.

It's all about tv money, maxing out viewership, and nothing about fan experience or the fact that same people that would watch at 3 pm are the same people that would watch at 6 pm,

Key difference being the 3 pm watchers are probably gonna have that 6 pm game on too. 

It would take away prime time viewers but add little or nothing for us if we were moved to a prime time slot. 

College athletics has been utterly ruined by tv people and greed.  For the viewer at home it's a pretty good thing but if you actually want to still go enjoy watching your team in person square up on a cupcake and lie to yourself for at least 1 week a year then that game day experience is largely a secondary concern. 

Our game should either be played early or later due to excessive heat. It's not the end of the world people can deal with it but it's certainly gonna empty the stands at halftime.
