I'm guessing he's a base defense guy which means he'll never see the field because we'll almost always need eleventy db's on the field that can't cover.

I don't think firing RS is the solution.  RS firing Cramsey and OL coach is.  Their performance is so atrocious that it can't be justified in any way.  The OL is so fundamentally unsound that it is comical... like they are literally out there intentionally doing everything wrong for a skit.  The RBs refuse to block... the WRs largely ignore the rub blocks they should be doing to sell run when it's pass... and their routes are sloppy at best.  This is all fundamentals coaching.  Basic shit you know by middle school.  It's not like it's just one or two moments, or some low effort occasionally by a player or two.  No, it is consistent, and all of them.  It's so ubiquitous that we notice when someone does something right, and say damn!  They MUST be being coached to do this stuff wrong.  It's the only explanation.

Then there is the offensive scheme.  It's just so damned bad and wonky.  The play calls are largely shit, with a few good plays sprinkled in.  Cramsey is just plain bad at his job, "ok".  He doesn't get it, "ok".  He should be shit canned, "ok".  Mr. Mackey could call better plays, "mmmkay". 

Our Defense, I'll give a slight pass to, as they are at least doing some of the basics.  We can easily point to talent for some of the woes we saw out there... but the D was also put in a horrible position by the Offense the ENTIRE game.

As for Silverfield, I think he cares... I think he's in over his head.  However, I know for shit sure, we have to give him another year, if for no other reason than we cannot allow HY to hire another FB coach.

The only reason not to fire him at 1-11 is as I said above, to keep Yurachek from making the hire or worse, for having to hire someone without an AD in place.  If the board did what they should and fired Yurachek at noon today (sooner if possible), then had his replacement on board by November, then yes you cut bait and move on to someone else.  Preferably you hire an AD who already has a head coach he can bring with him, or someone he trusts committed to taking the job.

We weren't getting good coaches even without scaring them away.

Exactly. The good coaches have been avoiding this program for at least a decade.

We're going to have to overpay in one year or three years.  It won't matter.  The only way we get someone good is with a complete house cleaning and overhaul.  Not only do we have to get someone else making the decisions we have to show our commitment to the college football world, potential coaches, and fans that we are serious and intend to do things differently from here on out.  Nothing else will work. 

It will be a symbolic tear down to the studs and rebuild of the program.  That's all that's left to do and it must be done whether we start tomorrow or three years from now.  The longer we delay, the longer we suffer.

All this talk about firing the OL coach raises the critical point... Ryan Silverfield, our current HC, is a former OL coach.

Surely, one would think, SURELY, he has to share some of the blame for how poorly the whole unit is playing.

It's the Fox guarding the hen house though. We want someone to look at this from a much bigger picture...to investigate how we are so incompetent at putting a competitive product on the field. We have facilities. We are in the right conference. There's money there. We are literally surrounded by regional programs that are more successful and to some degree in similar "talent pools". We have suits and degrees coming out of our ears...surely someone up there can come up with a comprehensive "What's it gonna take"...no shit kind of come to Jesus reality check. That somebody is not HY or probably most anyone that's part of the BOT. And hiring someone from the outside to come in and give them that kind of break down will just be dismissed as either too expensive or unnecessary. 

It may take some changes to state law that may be hamstringing the program and making the job appear less attractive from the jump.


Somehow this all just smacks of a Jerry Jones organized effort of yes men that can't get out of their own way.

This is the most hopeless I have felt ever as a Razorback football fan.  I do not see any way this gets fixed.

Since I became a fan mid-70s the absolute lowest point was Chad Morris.  The two "real" coaches before him, Petrino & Bielema, were professional coaches.  The one right after him, Pittman, had an acceptable first year and a good second year.  So the dip to Chad Morris was not permanent, I didn't think.  It was low, and it was awful, but it wasn't permanent.

The previous lowest point was Jack Crowe.  He was fired right quick.  Even when we were "bad" in the SEC at the beginning of the 90s, we would still win games against real teams occasionally. We just needed time to get our feet under us.  It wasn't hopeless.

The third lowest point was Danny Ford and more losing years in the 90s. I was living out of state for the first time and the internet wasn't a thing yet, so I didn't pay much attention.  It wasn't hopeless because I wasn't paying enough attention to have hope or lack of hope.

Nutt was mediocre and we wanted something better, but he wasn't the worst I've ever seen and completely hopeless.  There were a lot of good moments under Houston.

So far, Silverfield might be Chad Morris bad.  It certainly looks that way.  After Chad Morris then the worst of Pittman and now the NIL era and Silverfield, it feels hopeless.  I truly don't see how this changes.

They need to hire a consultant team of former ceo  type coaches like Saban to just tear through the program and identify any and all issues they find. I'm betting they have a habit of filling positions for the sake have checking a box without actually doing the due diligence required to verify that the person being hired knows what the hell they are doing. And then they follow that up by not having proper performance reviews or holding people accountable. 

Get enough people not doing their job and you create an atmosphere of suck that has its roots running deep into the foundation. We need to pull the weeds and eradicate the roots, not just go for the quick hire at the top and expect anything different.
