I think I'm in the same boat on not having a CEO coach. I think Sam understood that. Briles, Odom, and BP were good hires. He missed on just as many, but he attempted to bring in highly regarded guys.

RS bringing his staff from Memphis worried me day 1. Roberts had mixed reviews. He's going to have some tough decisions to make, and somehow convince someone to hop aboard what looks like a dying ship.

I might be crazy, but it seems like Lebby has had them feeling like we did in Bobby's first year - kind of shitty but improving and you can see the improvement coming. Now by MSU standards the patience might be paying off.

And their standards are higher than ours.

This is true. Actually, it was the other way around. Morris didn't even coach in his team's bowl game.

Morris wanted the the job and wanted it to be announced the last week of the season. HY didn't want that because Petrion wanted an interview at the end of the season. OK State announced the Saturday we played Missouri (Nov 25th) and HY wanted to wait until after the season was finished.

What a dumbass HY is.

If anyone outside of Arkansas thought Nutt was some kind of talent he would have been holding down a head coaching position for the last several years leading up to his retirement. I know it's been mentioned before having a role for him as a fundraiser and I can kind of see that, but also make that leap that the real money people think people like Nutt are a joke and won't give.

The things we're seeing is what it looks like when you are a poors program competing with programs that have 10 to 20% higher budgets in this arms race. We literally look like a Big 12 program unsuccessfully trying to make it look like we're attempting to compete but really aren't.

What the fans see and has seen over the last couple years is that you can piss away 15 to 25 million and still see half ass play. Playing for pay should have consequences. Under the old staff it literally looked like the only reason some guys played is because they were being given more money. We'll see what happens with the new staff but so far it doesn't look promising.

The key to a lot of this is resourcefulness. Who can get the most bang for the buck. Arkansas is estimated to be around 25 million in NIL. That's good enough for 8th in the Big 10 and good enough for dead last in the SEC. That's good enough for pretty much top money in the Big 12. In the past when the conference wasn't so huge we were a good choice for Texas kids that are now going to Missouri, OU, A&M etc. They don't need Arkansas to compete in the best conference. Somewhere along the way Arkansas has manage to fuck itself away from the table with the AID of the league adding more helmets.

For all the talk of being "poor" and all that, it isn't that much different than it ever was. Arkansas is Top 25 in resources and recruiting and we get Top 75 results a lot of years. Excellent coaches like Petrino do quite a bit better. Decent coaches like Nutt and Bert get 6 to 9 most years with a few bad years. Bad coaches like our last three, get terrible results.

NIL has changed things but Arkansas occupies roughly the same space in the NIL era as it did in the past. We can compete much better than we are by changing nothing more than leadership.
