What answers are you talking about. We're really not that bad of a team. We don't turn the ball over as much as we do, we are 6-1 right now.

But we do turn it over and this is something that seems to follow this team around the last few seasons regardless of the coordinator.

 At some point one has to take a deeper dive into why this shit happens.

Both KJ and Taylen seem to fall into that boom or bust category. Taylen can still grow out of it with more schooling from Petrino the elder.

Our other skill players all seem to have issues with ball security. The only exception being Armstrong.

We recruited Jackson who is a talented kid but was known to be injury prone and I believe also had a fumbling issue
 
To compound the issue we rarely get defensive take aways. We aren't forcing fumbles, getting picks, or otherwise getting opportunistic turnovers. That speaks to physicality.

It's hard to differentiate between the Xs and Os versus the Jimmies and Joe's, but the stark difference between the last Petrino year and the John L. Smith year lends support to Cowherd.

Granted, the first is from when we thought KJ would follow Briles to wherever.  The second was right before KJ found his way to second and then third string.

Lebby and Briles gonna have KJ as a Heisman finalist next year.

I tend to agree that coaching makes a huge difference, but I'd argue that equally important is setting in a talent rich area where you are more likely to land the good/great players. Georgia and Clemson are a couple of examples of schools and coaches that roll out of bed and hit 4 star athletes. LSU is another. Alabama post Saban...not so much I got a feeling we'll see.

For every example you can send at me of a genius coach making a ton of difference I can offer Coach O or Dabo as a couple of examples of recent times where they won natty(s) and neither are confused for coaching savants.

It's all about how a program is able to maximize the NIL/portal game. It's probably pretty unique to the schools situation where it relates to expected year to year talent pool. Look at this now as a cost to conversion type thing. Arkansas likely has to spend XYZ more than Georgia simply because the really good kids don't have to leave the state to go play ball initially. Georgia may counter that by saying they've got to pay out the ass to keep their depth because otherwise the Arkansas' of the world are raiding their roster (we have)

If I'm not mistaken Dabo is not as into the portal game at Clemson. I think someone said they are still developing thru high schoolers getting into their program and developing them from there. If that's true and Clemson continues to have a pretty good to ok season that may ultimately be a model for some schools. Keeping your depth for practically anyone is going to be difficult though.

Saban was the GOAT so why is anyone surprised that Bama is not playing at the same level?
Saban demanded attention to detail which is what the great coaches do. They don't bend rules or cut corners.
Still gotta have a great players but if the other team has great players what makes the difference - attention to detail and discipline which bama now lacks.

Jimmy Johnson, Saban, and other greats always say the key to winning is "have better players".  Better talent properly coached is far more important than scheme.  Meaning the correct culture, accountability, and focus. 

If you gave Sam Pittman the 62 Packers or 93 Cowboys or 85 Bears they would all have losing records.  The man is a lousy excuse for a coach; I put him below John L and Duddy Waller.  Incompetent, inept, lazy.  A true shitbag.
