I love him and would like to see Green with another year under Petrino, but not  enough tk keep Sam around just for that.

Agreed.

Keeping Sam for 2025 simply for a year of system/coordinator continuity is just prolonging the inevitable. 

And as I said earlier, Sam is usually worth 2-3 losses more than his team's talent level suggests. So however talented we are next year (I suppose we lose Armstrong and JQJ, plus a lot on defense), add 2-3 losses to the W/L tally.

I'm willing to lose T-Will and BMFP if it means lancing the boil that is Pittman.

Those two are good in their own right but not enough to overcome the lazy ineptitude infecting our program with Sam at the helm.

And let's be honest for a minute. T—Will has had a couple of good games but has also laid a couple of turds too. The BYU, Florida, Auburn, and Mizzou games last year were terrible defensive efforts. The second half of the OSU game this year sucked, and the entirety of the LSU game was one big "WTF??" when it comes to game plan.

I yield to few in my love of Petrino, but I also think his offense is too complicated for modern college players (not to mention the transience because of the portal). College offenses now are all about simplicity. Green has all world athleticism but maybe doesn't have it between the ears to run Petrino's offense (not sure many do). One wonders what Green could do in a simpler scheme.

I don't know but watching DJ break it down made sense that our Joes just keep stepping on their Jimmies.

And we primarily had a pure talent deficiency in the back four of the defense against LSU (e.g., desperation PI on the first play of the game) so we went too conservative.

And there are countless offensive plays with guys running wide ass open that Green either doesn't see or waits until tomorrow to throw.

There were a few times during the LSU game where the camera cut to him and he was chewing Green's ass with that gritted teeth look we're all familiar with.

I found it really interesting that even DJ was saying on his podcast/vlog that he thinks Singleton will get the starting job if we lose to MSU or Green lays another turd. Basically said that Green's turnovers and missing wide open receivers is holding back the progression of the offense.

I've probably said this a few times already but this is a make or break game for this staff. We lose to Miss State it's time to pack it in. Sure they'll try to get Singleton and or Jackson up and ready and may salvage the season but more than likely it'll just be showcasing him/them for a gig out of the portal. I do agree losing to MSU all but ends any long term plans for Green.

That's the depressing version. The less depressing version is we take care of business, go to 5-3...keep hope alive of having a respectable season coming off a 4 win year the season prior.

While it is true, it's quite a pseudo stat since Morris went O-fer and Lunney coached for 2 games, and Smile was a one year coach. Those 3 alone have 2 combined SEC wins, and JLS had both of them.

So that leaves Bert, who was a miserable 11-29 in the SEC.

Sam isn't much better at 14-25, which makes the tweet correct, but as someone else said it is an extremely low bar.

You know who else won more conference games than all of those guys combined (and has 2 more SEC wins than Pittman)? Danny Ford. So not exactly the victory lap some people are making it out to be.

Yeah it's nice that Sam is the best we've had since Bobby, but it's damning with faint praise since we were DOA since Bobby.

In this era of NIL....I look for coaches that have a knack of filling immediate needs and making in-season adjustments that seem fairly obvious. GVN is as mediocre here as he is in most other regards. Immediate needs you say? He waits till nearly half the season is over before figuring out his RT can't get out of his own way and the starting left guard is far more athletic. 

Gee Wiz. Oh and wait for it...Harris looks like a fucking SEC starting tackle! Imagine that. I'm sure some of that is because Patrick Kutas's injury forced his hand but he was never going to play Harris. Blackstock is the cat getting that fat check I'd bet. The other tackle brought in has been "serviceable" but I use that loosely. Overall sure they improved the line over last season. It's as a whole much better and again there are far worse O lines in the SEC. Across the board I'd say line play in the SEC is pretty bad.

There are way worse QBs in the SEC than Taylen Green and it's very possible his best football is ahead of him. I think we can see that so we have some things going for us...just need to put it together and make a run. We're gonna get out classed and out talented in some games. But there are also some games like yesterday where we were just better and to some degree lucky like with MSU stepping on it's dick repeatedly.

Taylen Green.  I imagine for the first time yesterday, Petrino said HE IS WHO I THOUGHT HE WAS. He clearly has physical gifts greater than Singleton or anyone else on the roster. His problems have been running the offense and getting his decision making up to SEC speed. Mississippi State isn't exactly SEC this year, but yesterday was what everyone wants.

Green practically can't be tackled if he sees the rush coming.  That is an amazing advantage.  His problems are missing open receivers and bad negative plays.  Limit the negative plays and he suddenly looks much much better.

With Petrino on staff Arkansas is now 20-17 in SEC play. 

I'm thinking he may be the key ingredient here.

At some point Sam is going to get his replaced and be out of the office, the question is when as it seems very likely he is here next season.

He feels there isn't time for the surgery and recovery but putting it off isn't good either. Likely why he had gained back what he had lost weight wise. It has to be miserable dealing with the pain. Hopefully he can do it asap after the lower tier bowl game.

As I think I said on here yesterday, Green is to be congratulated for a great game yesterday. He actually threw a couple of receivers open-- like on that pass to the end zone. 

But of course I remain skeptical because MSU was missing 3 (or maybe 4) of its best defensive linemen, and Green had plenty of time to throw it on most plays.  Let's hope he can have a similar game against Ole Miss, which has a good defensive line.
