If you're Yurachek you've got to have a "what are you going to do to fix this?" conversation with Sam near season's end. If you don't like what you hear, it's time to make a move.

You want to be hiring a new coach when few other programs are, and you don't want to be going up against other programs. Florida, A&M, and even Bama could potentially come open after 2024, the latter of which would create a ripple effect if Kiffin gets that job. That was one of the many things going against us in 2019, with Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Mizzou all hiring and all in much better shape than we were in.

It's gonna come down to the record and I don't see better than 4-8, maybe 5 wins.

In that case the stadium is empty and Yuri pulls the trigger. Just my guess.

The emptying will start when they roll back into town on a 5 game losing skid.

Quote from: Show-Me Hog on Oct 02, 2023, 06:25 PMIt's simply not going to happen this year even if we lose out.

Year 1: we look like an SEC team again.

Year 2: my god! 9-4! The future's so bright, we gotta wear shades. Sam toast of the town.

Year 3: Hm. 7-6. But a bowl victory. And several close losses. Could have easily been 9-4 again.

Year 4: WTF?

One WTF year does not equal a firing. Sam Pittman is going to be the 2024 Razorback football coach. He ain't quitting either. 2 bad years in a row, he'll be gone then one way or the other.

Pretty much. The only way it happens this year is if he decides he has enough money and doesn't need the stress. I give that a 20% chance at best. He'll want the chance to redeem himself(while cashing more checks).
The Lord wants you to put your foot on their balls and believe in it. 'Cuz that's what wins football games. Not jumping offsides like a bunch of wimps and faggots. I don't care what those pinkos over in Russia say. You want to be a loser? You go live in Russia. I'm a winner. I'm an American.

I buy the argument that Pittman will get a fifth year. He's basically Bert 2.0 so why not.

Then again, HY had his post season talk with Mike and, after hearing no real plans to improve things, decided to let him go. So there's a precident.

I like Sam on a personal level enough to hope we turn things around. I'm also jaded enough to expect him to flounder between now and Thanksgiving and end the season with us something like 4-8 with a win over one random SEC team and nothing else to show for it. By that point fan anger and November's bad ticket sales might be enough to doom him.

Lotta teams would love to be 2-3 right now, Chuck.

Its not a stretch that we could be coming back home to FIU losing 7 of the last 8.

I would like to think that Yurachek has talked to him after the shit-show this past weekend and at least said "to make sure we're aligned, that's not what I expect from our football team."

I tend to think that he has, and that may have prompted the talk about changing up the offensive line.  I don't want the AD being prescriptive on what to do, but telling him that he's not happy with how things are going, and making sure Sam's not putting it all down to bad luck is exactly what I would expect.  I hope that the AD doesn't just wait until the end of the year to talk performance.  We never did that in the business world, and in fact, if you didn't have performance conversations with employees, it would get leaders fired.

Burt Bielema probably agrees with you.

Year 1:  3-9
Year 2:  7-6
Year 3:  8-5
Year 4:  7-6
Year 5:  4-8

I know it wasn't Yurachek who pulled the trigger, but the people who did make that call last time are still the ones who effectively sign his paychecks.  Sam seems to be on the same trajectory.

I think it would take an 0-8 or maybe 1-7 SEC year to do it, but there is no way they can afford to keep Sam if we collapse completely.  Simply missing a bowl wouldn't do it, although his ass would be blisteringly hot for next year at anything below 7-5.

I doubt HY has had much to say to the coach and doesn't have to. He's been fairly quiet on the matter which to me implies that there's not going to be any vote of confidence coming soon.

BUT if we win Saturday he'll be the first motherfucker out on the field with arms in air.

I think Sam is fully aware of the fact that the product he is putting on the field isn't good enough for him to keep his job for long.  Yurachek doesn't have to say a word.  Pittman has seen plenty of head coaches go out over the years.  He knows what he is seeing now.
Apparently retarded member of the "fucking old people" crowd as defined by Swahili Steve.

I'm sure you're both right, but I still think he ought to be telling him.  Pressure needs to be high right now.  I know Sam knows it's not good enough, but the boss needs to say it to him (and only him) out loud.

I am not sure what to make of this article. He either is blaming Kennedy or Enos for the OL woes.

He says we had two years of piss poor recruiting and we can't fill in the holes with the portal. Shouldn't that fall on Pittman?

Regardless, he thinks we should give Pittmn another year. If we keep losing, won't we jeopardize the receuiting more?

Boy that is a damn depressing article. There is virtually nothing right about our offense.

I felt like the article kinda missed the mark...I'm not looking it up but I want to say we had several scholarship lineman from the Morris era that figured to be in the till for the next 2-3 years. A couple of which got career ending type injuries after Pittman arrived...Gatlin for one. The majority of those guys played and started for Pittman up until this season, two of which are still currently starting interior lineman. He further insinuates the problems could continue next season on the inside while the outside our tackles get better with age and development. In other words we really don't or won't have juniors and seniors having waited their turn to start at guards and center roles next season. I figure Braun will be back. I'm sure we will try to hit the portal again and hopefully see more success. This season with Braun has been something marginally below the "serviceable" mark from what I'm seeing.

Essentially Pittman and his OL coach would have had the presence of mind to over sign at this particular position group in order to have the numbers we need today. All 3 from the 2020 class gone, none of which were SEC caliber apparently coming off a 1-24 SEC record will do that. The 21 class hasn't exactly lit the world on fire either and odds are good it never will. That's a large gap in recruiting at a position that needs development and maturity unless you are signing your share of Shawn Andrew's caliber kids a lot more often than we have.

Blame in this case I feel is a slippery slope...I kinda feel that by last season early on the alarm bells certainly should have been raised and an all out effort should have been placed on getting some portal guys. You have to be honest with yourself and see that some of the guys you signed aren't panning out. Kennedy may be a horrible OL coach...I have no idea but if you look just at the recruiting the guy has done better than any OL coach we've had in the role since Pittman (rankings wise) and probably better.

Enos I don't really blame because he is who we thought he is. This same exact thing happened when he came the first time and by midseason the team figured some things out, the schedule got a bit softer, and we cranked out some wins. The same thing could happen this season but thus far I'm not that optimstic because the one variable missing is an experienced offensive line. He had it then but not now...our only hope is some things start to click in or the coaches find some "gamers" that maybe haven't had their shot yet. I doubt it though.

KJ ain't as good as Brandon Allen was either.  Brandon didn't have the physical tools KJ does, but he was far better at running an offense like Enos'.
