I'm thinking maybe we should be looking at playing some other/younger interior lineman but I'm sure they aren't doing that because if you think it's bad now just wait. This is the thing though you can't keep doing the same thing hoping the hell it gets better. You have to try something different. I know the center position has become this very critical role on the team but I'd love to move Limmer over to guard and maybe play Wiggins or someone else at center. Surely we have a backup center. Move Latham to a utility backup role. Chamblee should be working at guard because he sucks as a tackle. Harris should be getting on the fucking field. This repeated excuse that we are beat up just isn't flying with me. If you are trotting kids out there that are so beat up that they literally cannot be competitive then that says a lot about your program's readiness and overall development.

The line isn't the only issue I'm seeing but certainly the greatest area of concern. Everything about this offense enhances the suck on our line play and I suspect the opposite was true for the Briles offense that created a lot of space. In the first go around with Enos it took the line several weeks into the season to get things figured out so the same could be true in this case but right now I'm not optimistic.

I'm also seeing the same guys namely Dubinion completely miss blocking assignments, our tight ends are once again terrible. How can we possibly recruit this badly to this postion? Hasz was a godsend and short lived. Behind him we look undersized/weak at the position. Yesterday the defense knew exactly what we were going to run, would make their shift. We wouldn't do hardly any adjustments and would literally run the play right into the strong side. Every single fucking time.

So lets also review something else here. DJ Durkin is the A&M DC that was previously the head coach at Maryland before killing a kid in practice. You don't reckon he still has some friends in the area that shared the Enos playbook do you? Or maybe we just that fucking obvious.

I'm not so sure that the running backs refusing to even attempt to chip an edge rusher isn't more a feature of Enos' offense than a bug.  Austin Allen will probably die ten years sooner than he would have otherwise because of the beatings he took that one year.  I seem to remember the running backs looking clueless about blocking back then too.

Quote from: Trigger7672 on Oct 01, 2023, 08:39 AMPetrino did walk in to the best in state recruiting class in program history the season he got here. The guy can coach his ass off but he couldn't recruit for shit. He did fine with Strong's players when he went back to Louisville but he had a Chad Morris level season his final year there.
Lol.

Petrino built Louisville into a power house.  But he can't recruit?

His second stint, while not as good as the first, wasn't terrible.  They were a competitive program with a Heisman winner. But he can't recruit.

He took over a Hogs program that was perineal 7 win program and every single year the team got better.  He had a QB that was another Heisman candidate.  But he can't recruit.

I love the reasonings on why he wasn't as good as he was.  Built in State talent takes the cake.

If anyone wants to know why Arkansas is a perineal shit program, this take is why.

Quote from: Feral on Oct 01, 2023, 08:24 AMArkansas is never going to out-talent anyone and has always excelled by way of great coaching, scheming, and overachieving players.

This but no one wants to admit it. We have to have to out develop and x and o teams with more talent. Everyone has nil (and facilities) today so not sure why so many think we're special there and can separate from the pack when we have not come close to doing so in football. We are not winning which makes it a harder sell as well.

Lord help us the next coach who beats Texas is gonna get a stupid new deal that will hamstring the program for 4 years.

Time to yurachek to back up his statements about firing a coach for cause and makes contract's incentive based.

I fear the back room power players are gonna make it a circus again, they always do cause it is still the 1960s in their minds. 22 straight!

As noted, Bobby was fired, he can't be rehired per UofA regulations so let's move past that.
Check your damn blood pressure!

What happened in his final season as a Louisville coach when he didn't have Charlie Strong's players anymore? I guess losing every conference game was a result of his badass recruiting classes? People don't think he would have dropped off here when that's exactly what happened when he went back to Louisville? Okay.

Barton Fink

That team quit on him as bad as Chad's team did here.

I get it, you don't like Petrino.  All you really had to write is how you have no interest in seeing Arkansas have a winning football program.

He lost 13 games in 3 years at Louisville with Lamar. Lamar masked all the other deficiencies there but were still woefully average. He left Louisville's program in shambles twice. His 2010 class was 47th nationally coming off our best year in forever. That's just not even trying to recruit. Thankfully he walked into Wright, Adams, Gragg, DJ, Childs, Mallett, Wilson etc

BleedinRed

Hey, let's keep doing it your way.  Its worked so well the last 35-40 years.

The Whyte Boar

We're going to have to get serious here.  Maybe Alabama is out of reach but I think most would agree that we can and should be on the level of Ole Miss.  Well, Ole Miss is paying Kiffin $9 million a year.

We're going to have to pay someone $10 million a year to get the kind of coach we want.  Anything less gets us someone like Sam or a real up and comer who may or may not work out.

Pay the big bucks up front but also demand performance up front.  There aren't any excuses anymore.  A roster can be completely turned over in a year.  Real progress can occur in a year.  Find  someone who understands and embraces the new landscape and how to use it for success.  If they fail, pay them and move on.  Nothing is permanent now.  Change can happen overnight.  Don't settle.

I'd take another sugar bowl appearance and being "left in shambles" over 15 fucking years of incompetence.

Being "left in shambles" is far preferable to simply "being in a shambles" because you are too frightened as a program to demand better.

Wow you made a great retort to my points. What happened in his last year at Louisville? Why the major  dropoff?  I loved Petrino when he was  here. That's by far my favorite time period as an Arkansas fan. He was far from perfect though. You're right though we would probably go right back to winning 10 games even though he never did that at Louisville when he went back with a future NFL MVP under center. Dumbfuck.

I don't know that anybody can sit here and say this guy or that guy would be our next Petrino. Kliff Kingsbury for example. He didn't exactly light the world on fire at Texas Tech...maybe he's better as a 2nd time D1 head coach in any case he was a under .500 coach at Tech and also in the NFL. Doesn't mean he can't win but don't know that we are going to rush to hire that guy. BUT you look at the Texas coach who did a stint under Saban and now he's looking like the guy to turn around Texas after a mediocre stint at USC and Washington. Dudes can learn from their mistakes and get better as coaches.

That's why you have to wonder if we as fans just have too quick of a hook. We are prisoners of the moment that can't look past our past and see that it's not necessarily indicative of the future. It's for this reason why I would respect a guy like Pittman a lot more if he would have just been honest with everyone from the start and say this offensive line is going to be a work in progress. In stead they claimed the defensive line was basically the People People Eaters. Even after a couple games and some reporters beginning to ask a few lightly sprinkled questions about the line instead of being honest he gets defensive and vindictive. EXACTLY LIKE NUTT DID.

I don't care who you are in this business you have to have thick skin and you tell your kids the cowboy the fuck up and play better if you don't want to hear that shit.

Quote from: hit_that_line on Oct 01, 2023, 08:04 AMAnd the fact the OL was awful. Both starting LB's were done early. That team was gonna be a mess.

A mess that would have been no worse than 8-4.  Would have gone 4-0 in non-conference, and would have beaten LSU, Ole Miss, probably Miss State and/or South Carolina in addition to Auburn and Kentucky.

Hell, the OL was ass in 2010 and 2011.  A good coach doesn't just throw up his hands at that...he finds ways to minimize the damage a weak position group can do.

Petrino left a hell of a lot more talent for JLS and Burt than was left for him.  Go back and count all the quality DL that Petrino left behind, then how many we have had since.
Perish peacefully in a warm environment.

jesus, some of you need to let it the fuck go. 12 years since that man walked the sidelines.

that's a problem with seemingly large part of the fan base. someone already mentioned, beating texass gets a coach at arkansas an extension and a raise. how true. looking at the past instead of the future.

Finding the right guy is why AD's get paid a lot too.  But it's easier to give a guy who is younger and with more experience a chance than a guy in his early 60s who has never done it before.

Arkansas' two most successful coaches since Broyles were Holtz and Petrino.  They were both NFL retreads.

Sure...NFL retreads can certainly work you just have to step over the Adam Gase's of the world.

Sark is mostly a college guy as was Holtz and arguably Petrino too but they had that experience in the NFL. Likewise our former TE coach has loads of NFL experience and I don't know anyone that dreams of Dowell Loggains cruising the sidelines in charge of the Razorbacks. I'd rather take my chances with Lunney Jr or Rhett Lashlee.

In order to really sale this turd we may end up having to take a page out of A&M's book and keep the head coach and force him to hire some real fucking assistants. I mean throw some seriously fuck you money at some of the better coordinators and assistants. This never works but it just might in A&Ms case. Only I don't think there is another Petrino lurking about...maybe a former Oregon coach that's kinda disappeared. Oh he didn't disappear he's just in Chicago coaching Justin Fields which is kinda the same thing. Mark Helfrich is more or less in the same profile as Bobby P.
