I don't think there was any way Odom was going to be retained so the point is fairly moot. I don't think you need to be an insider to figure out Pittman allowed him to save face by taking a gig elsewhere. 

Briles: I had no problem with replacing him. I liked the offense for the most part, but his play calling was maddening sometimes. In fairness he also came up with some real zingers from time to time and clearly the current team is better suited to that offense than whatever the fuck we are current attempting. Our lack of QB development was also a huge red flag and that's something I still feel a bit better about with Enos. The offensive line may not get fixed this season but next year with Criswell under center and hopefully a vastly improved line...we'll see some progress.

I want people to bare in mind that with the Briles offense and the Enos offense the common denominator for better or worse is KJ Jefferson's QB play which can be brilliant at times and stupefied in stupid at other times. But I'm pretty sure it wasn't KJ calling those weird trick plays all the time while Briles was here that rarely worked. KJ has his faults and it's looking like this Enos offense isn't correcting them it's making them look worse. Holding on to the ball too long, making him find the check downs and all that sort of stuff is not his wheelhouse. He's much better doing legit RPOs. Our two man game between him and Rocket aren't working because nobody is afraid of anything we do.

He doesn't care enough to actually do the work required.  I think he'll probably retire, but my original post on him not caring was in response to someone posting that we would have to force him to hire good coordinators.  Sam doesn't care enough to be forced into something.  He is set for life no matter what happens. 

I disagree that he doesn't care. He strikes me as someone who cares a lot, which is the same reason most of us all like him as a person. He's a good dude by all accounts. The problem is he doesn't have the ability.

Does Pittman strike you as the kind who cares enough to be up there at 1:00 a.m. in the summer watching film and texting recruits?  No, me either.  And like it or not, thats the bar set by other coaches in this league.  Now, I agree that it probably wouldn't matter if he did. He probably wouldn't get Saban results even if he worked that hard, but if he isn't working that hard, we lose to the likes of Liberty and BYU.

The problem isn't that he isn't working those hours.  He doesn't have expectations his assistant coaches will work the hours required of their jobs. 

The only way a leader gets that type effort is if he sets the example and does it himself.

I think we'd end up taking a flyer on one of the better coaches in the Sunbelt- which may not be a bad thing.
