Yurachek is a gutless coward who I've wanted fired for years and he needs to be gone tomorrow, but this is where my head is.

We're in the ultimate lose-lose.

Keep Yurachek and he either retains Pittman or executes another coaching search lazily and cheaply (which probably gets us Odom, a Mizzou castoff who can't recruit and now has an NIL PR disaster under his belt).

Fire Yurachek (and ostensibly Pittman) but risk the same fate we experienced in 2019.

Honestly Pittman is the only hire Yurachek has botched, and there were mitigating factors (program at rock bottom, Sexton manipulating Kiffin to get him to Ole Miss, etc). 

We can correctly point out that Tyson had more to do with Calipari than Hunter did, but you still have to give him credit for utilizing the connection and closing the deal. 

The problem with the Pittman hire wasn't the hire itself.  It was Hunter letting Sexton bend him over with the excessive buyout on the extension, and outsmarting himself with the "incentive clauses" that dug the hole deeper.  I've seen revisionists criticize Yurachek for not hiring Willie Fritz in 2020, but the fan base would have burned down the Broyles Complex if he'd tried to sell that to us back then (before Fritz had his breakout year at Tulane). 

I'd trust Hunter to hire the next coach and try to save his own ass versus keeping Pittman for yet another lame duck year and hoping the next AD can make a better hire.  If for no other reason than I don't want to risk bringing in someone Calipari doesn't want to work with/for in that role.  If the next football coach Hunter hires turns out as bad as 2022-2024 Pittman we can always send him packing at a later date.

I'm all about firing Hunter as well. I don't even think he had any input in getting Calapari here I think Tyson did that in his own because he was sick of losing

I don't love the guy but on some levels I think people are expecting him to ninja his way thru the modern realities of coaching contracts and that's just not how this works. And now we toss more on his shoulders with NIL and portal dynamics which have turned college athletics on its ear. Some programs have adjusted better... Arkansas not so much.

Agreed. I said something very similar in another thread, but go look at winners at the FCS level.

Kansas State hired Klieman from NDSU where he won a bunch of championships. He'll probably have them in the playoff this year.

Ohio State hired Tressel from Youngstown State where he won a bunch of I-AA championships.

IU hired Cignetti from James Madison. The guy had won a bunch at the D-II and FCS level.

Washington hired DeBoer after he'd won a bunch at Sioux Falls.

The point is that winners win. Good football coaches are good football coaches regardless of level. If Yurachek had put in even the slightest amount of effort and done some due diligence maybe we could've hired someone a winner from the FCS, but he couldn't be bothered to put in that effort in 2019.

Yeah. One thing we should absolutely NOT do, AGAIN, is hire an assistant to a great coach, thinking something rubbed off on him.

Pittman and Morris in football, Pelphrey and Heath in basketball should have us abandoning that path for the rest of my lifetime.

Really the only major one I can think of that worked out like that is Kirby Smart to Georgia. Even Will Muschamp didn't make much noise as a head coach.

That is the answer. Make sure their record shows that can win (and not just because they had a Matt Jones or Darren McFadden). We have to find somebody with a chip on their shoulder that is out to prove something, not somebody looking for a retirement check.
