Quote from: vegashog on Nov 05, 2024, 10:55 AMand get rid of the 'knows arkansas' narrative please. petrino didn't have a damn thing to do with arkansas.

in the age of the transfer portal what does that even mean? anyone who might take the job knows where we have to recruit.

Same.

I hate that line of thought.

Petrino and Holtz knew jack shit about Arkansas. Saban knew fuckall about the SEC and Louisiana before getting the LSU job.

Hire a guy who knows how to coach ball and the rest will follow.

Chadwell is at the top of my list.

No clue why he didn't get a better job than Liberty after the job he did at Coastal.

He also had a WTF loss this year that is potentially alarming. Granted, I don't know how fluky it may have been. But still.

We need to put a little more thought into it than just "he won at his last job", although that should be a minimum requirement.

Did he win at a school that had a talent advantage over the others in his conference, and if so was the that because he recruited better or because he was located in a relative hotbed of athletes?  You can call this the Napier principle.

Does his system require superior talent to succeed, or can he win with a slightly lower caliber of player?  This is a big one, and why Bert didn't make it here.  He's a solid coach but he tried to run the same type of schemes as Alabama and LSU with significantly less talent.  Regardless of who we have running things, we are never going to consistently outrecruit at least half and probably two-thirds of the SEC. The next coach has to be able to outscheme the peer schools (OM, MIZ, MSU, UK, SC, etc) and at least hold his own with the elite when the roster is on an up cycle.

Basically don't look for a guy who took over a school that was already winning and just kept things moving, and don't hire someone who wants to play bully ball versus Alabama, LSU, and Texass.
Perish peacefully in a warm environment.

I assume you mean Jeff Traylor.  Don't dismiss him at all.  Very good coach, strong recruiting ties in East Texas.  He's been in Fayetteville, and reportedly loves it.
Apparently retarded member of the "fucking old people" crowd as defined by Swahili Steve.

Sumrall is going to be a star.

Is the "wants to be here" crap a shot at Morris, muss, or both?
Also, it's a lazy excuse.
He is making generational money so suck it up buttercup.
What successful business is going to give an employee a bad to poor review then be cool with it if the employee says they "want to be here"?
If he really wants to be here then give back some salary especially after admitting he was out coached and out worked.
Also, if he really wants to be here then why fire henry who got him the job and then hire sexton and whine about a new deal.

Frick him.

His whole M.O. is offensive line and recruiting and both have been average to below average.
And his recruiting of the offensive line has been awful.

Great value line or not - coach them up. If he really was/is a o line guru then why are guys not coming to be coached up by him like defensive players did with Saban?
Nil my ass, the big check comes in the nfl.
Saban could get his players those checks, who has been getting those check since Sam has been head coach?
Check your damn blood pressure!

Is there anyway we can get Sam named to Trumps administration like ambassador to Gabon or heading the pres council on physical fitness.

These two I won't miss, and look forward to their unemployment.  The tranny likely goes away but the press sec probably gets a job with Joy Reid.,

Cignetti can do well at Indiana and they'll love him just for a winning record.  Camp out and then replace DeBoers when Bama tires of two loss seasons.

Hunter needs to call up Saban tonight just in case he wants a few more chances to beat LSU.
