Sadly, not even Saban could save our steaming pile of shit program.
Things of that nature

Like Cal the right hire can bring about corporate backing that just isn't as apparent currently.

The only way that would happen is if there's a coach out there that just isn't getting the $ support he's needing and is shopping his services to find someone committed to making chicken nuggets.

I just want to commend HY for not letting Lane Kiffin and Jimmy Sexton jerk him around.  Imagine how bad our program would be if we had come up with an extra million or two for Kiffin.  Going cheap with Sam Pittman was definitely the right way to go.

As long as we're handing out flowers let me add the coaching staffs of Ole Miss and South Carolina. They were able to take our "castoff" players and inspire them into playing to their potential.

They just have better orange slices and togetherness counselors than we do.  I bet their strength and conditioning workouts are incredibly inspiring tear-jerkers.  It's what's inside that counts!

they also spent more in the portal than any other team in college football.

gotta love some hog fans making kiffin out to be the next saban. he went to the fans and boosters and told them if they gave him the money to buy the best defense in the conference they'd win the sec and go the playoffs. he got his money.

arkansas fans are perpetually in 'i'll give when they win something' mode. you see the results.

One retardation in that... Kiffin had already proven that he could win games, and that a few pieces on defense were the missing link between Ole Miss and championship-caliber football.

What has Sam shown? He's shown that with enough luck we are capable of making a bowl.

the guy was a meme before ole miss hired him. he went 5-5, 10-3 (good) and 8-5. he lost 5 of his last 6 games in 2022 and they gave him a $2 million raise and  the fans pumped money into the grove collective. in what universe does arkansas do something like that?

that 'he did something' is just an excuse for arkansas fans.

LOL, that's rich.  Let's compare and contrast.

Young dynamic coach with past success. Fanbase is exited from the start.

Young athletic director set on making a mark.

Said young coach and athletic director embrace the concept of NIL and aggressively promote it FROM THE START.

At Arkansas we, after a long search where our athletic director gets butthurt and doesn't hire Kiffin, we hire a 58 year assistant coach who was about to retire.

Neither the head coach nor the athletic director embrace NIL, instead they campaign against it with politicians and speak about how horrible it is for the first two or three years of the coach's tenure.  They devote little energy to the NIL program and put a succession of hangers on and former athletes in charge.  The head coach is not involved at all and makes no appeals to the fans or anyone else after his first two years of moderate success and excitement about the program.

Now, after three years of underachieving with undisciplined teams where the players and the coaches make the same mistakes over and over, it's suddenly all the fans' fault because they don't give enough NIL.

One program went out and bought the best racehorse they could find and then went to their investors and promised to get it the best training, the best care, and enter all the biggest races.  The other bought a broken down plow horse, and promised to take the cheap way out as much as possible.  Now the owners of the plow horse are blaming their investors for not spending enough to make the plow horse as good as the other guy's racehorse.

lol, did you even read my second post? young exciting coach? to this board and just about everywhere else the guy was a joke.

my posts had nothing to do with pittman. it's a fact that ole miss and their fans spent the money even after a late season collapse and arkansas fans have made excuses not to.

DrMongoose

Let's not acclaim Kiffin the next Saban just yet. He is 2-10 vs the top 10 while in Oxford.

Not convinced Georgia is all that either.

I do know we stink and will continue to with the Sam and fountain dynamic duo,
Check your damn blood pressure!

I wonder how the Georgia and Alabama types have their NIL set up. They've been able to recruit just off of their reputation(and under the table money) forever. It's possible some of the major teams may not be able to pay as much as a team with a sugar daddy. Big money will eventually realize they can buy themselves some attention and glory and then it will just turn into the minor league of the NFL.

Aren't we already there?

The argument made at the beginning of NIL, that made complete sense to me, was that rich guys don't just throw their money down toilets. They didn't get rich being idiots. Therefore there will be few to no rich guys who will just throw money at programs simply to make their sports teams better.

Obviously that is completely wrong. But I don't quite understand why.

Because lots of rich guys like to show how big their dicks are.  And if they get the athlete to do a few adds for them, they can write it off as another business expense.  So, it's just one more line on the expense sheet.  They got the cash flow.

I don't understand why you wouldn't think boosters would not pay to get better players for their teams?

It's been going on as long as college football has existed.

Show me their NIL administrative costs compared to ours.

I mean, that would at least be something tangible and understandable.
