I think it's all Pittman. He said we needed to make some decisions, so he wanted to show he could make one.

Yurachek hasn't appeared to be that much of a meddler. But Shirley he's sitting back and watching, and not giving this any more weight than it deserves. The last four games still should dictate Sam's future.

Another consideration is that recruiting is getting better and better under Pittman. That's not a small thing, blue chip guys are still the main key to success. To build trust, foundation, and relationships with those guys start young and take time.  But we're still doing well with the portal, inconsistent but more hits than misses.

He made an outstanding hire with T Will and the defensive changes there.

He'll have to make another hire on the offensive side now.

Our recruiting is still somewhere around the bottom third of the conference. That is NOT our key to success. We will always have to win with scheme.

All this tells me is Sam will be back next year.  He is making staff changes, hopefully correcting the problem, and he will be given next year to show that its "them, not me".

Probably an economic decision to let Pittman have next season, let that buyout shrink up.

Surely no one believes he can effectively coach this team.

Pittman thought the roster turnover would bring in enough new guys to make it worth installing Enos' full offense. He completely discounted the value of continuity for key guys like KJ, the RB room, and the OL. Pittman also whiffed on thinking his position coaches would be fully bought into the offense and more importantly be able to coach the offense into the position groups such that the offense would be a cohesive unit.

Piggybacking off of this, the information came from Dan Enos and Sam Pittman interviews on HOGS+.

Hogs+ was a nifty idea but I cancelled it last season.

three others on his staff, including both the coordinators, had sexton as an agent and not a peep was heard, even after they got raises.

fwiw, pittman said that the reason he went with sexton was to streamline the process because it was the same agent.

If you play the "I love this place" and "muh loyaltee" card to get and keep the job, when you hire the biggest shark in the agent pool who also has a documented history of working against our school to the benefit of rival programs, you don't get to play the same card as other coaches who are just trying to get market value.

Yurachek would have almost certainly given Sam a similar raise if he'd kept Judy Henry, if he'd hired Petrino's agent Russ Campbell, or probably if the two of them had sat down with an old col'beer and hashed it out themselves.  Hiring an enemy of the program to do his negotiating was completely unnecessary and showed bad faith after Hunter and others had stuck out their necks for a guy who wasn't even qualified to get an interview for a SEC head coaching position without familiarity.

Hopefully this is the case.  Kennedy deserved to be fired at the end of last year, and certainly should have been shown the door along with Enos.  But maybe they don't have a GA that could handle the day-to-day duties without a warm body in the position.  This is a start at least. 

I don't think you can bring Sam back at 0-8, and almost certainly not at 1-7, but getting the guy most responsible for the shitty offense is a good start.

People don't want to hear it, but short of a decade or so of 2010-2011 success we are always going to recruit in the 15-30 range nationally which will put us somewhere between 6th and 10th in the SEC.
