Unlike Chad Morris....Rhett Lashlee is actually putting together a decent resume while at SMU. So there's that. I don't think we have the balls to hire another SMU guy any time soon but he's part of the Gus tree that most of Springdale approves of. Former Arkansas player so you know he get its and stuff.

I would rather go Herman or Traylor before Lashlee but I think he's going to be in the running and may wait on the job to open.

if pittman is canned after this season, the average stay for the last four arkansas football coach (leaving out john l) is 3.75 seasons. nobody worth a shit is going to consider this job without a big salary and a guarantee to go with it.

that said the hire will probably be an up and comer with a few years as a hc and have to have arkansas connections because, for reasons no one can explain in the age of nil and the transfer portal, that seems to be an important qualifier.

I can't stand Herman. He seemed Hootie-esque during his time in Austin. I'd rather roll the dice on GJ Kinne or Traylor before going that route. There's a reason he's at FAU now. I think of him as the offensive version of Muschamp.

We're not going to offer anything close, much less even more than that to make him even blink twice at the thought of leaving his situation there.  So why get told no publicly.  Doing so adds to the pressure and puts HY behind the proverbial 8 ball in the coaching search.

Put 15mil out there. 5 yr contract with stepped qualifiers. You meet the qualifiers for that year, you get another year tacked on the end. 5 yr rolling contract. You miss a qualifier. A year gets cut. Now you have to meet the past year and the next.
Year 4 and you miss, you just lost 4 years.

It's similar to finding a lady. 

If you're 6'4", fit, good looking, have a great personality and a 9" cock you're probably not going to have any trouble attracting 9's and up.  The more of those characteristics you lack, the more you have to make up somewhere else...mainly with money. 

Arkansas right now is the 5'6" overweight dude with anxiety issues and tiny hands, and we're competing with about six guys like the one above for the same dating pool.  We can either settle for 4's or we can throw some money around and at least attract some 7's and 8's, and maybe occasionally grab the 9 who "gets us."

Speaking of risk, as an AD who offers a guarantee of 10+ million, your job is now directly tied to the success of the FB program. If it doesnt work out youre likely toast, and job prospects for the next stop just got a lot smaller.

Understood, and I agree with the idea. It's just gonna be a helluva challenge for HY especially given the conference realignment with Texas and OU coming in.  One things for sure though, Arkansas fans are so hungry that if we do manage to strike gold and hire the right guy who comes in and wins consistently, we'll build a statue.

By qualifiers I mean set goals you have to meet every year to keep rolling over your 5yr contract.
START with 15 to say, yeah Saban, make him say no.
Hell with the AD. They live and die by the sword anyway. If the AD can't step up and put his balls on the line then he needs to step off also.

They want fans to be all in but they not willing to. I'd be willing to bet a dollar to a dime that everyone on here would be in or back in the season ticket game if we did some shit like that.

I said it on the old board and I will reiterate it again. Sam's decline began after the Liberty loss. You don't recover from a loss like that. Ever since, it has been a slow decline and there are no signs that it will be improving next year. You have to fire him now due to the conference expansion next year. Yurachek has built a winner out of the basketball team, volleyball team, softball team and Soccer. He knows how to hire a head coach, he just needs to tell the PTB to shut the fuck up and get out of his way. This year, more than any other, has proven to me that you can build a winner in football here. We have the money, the facilities, the fanbase, the NIL, the portal. All we need is a competent coach.
