I'm watching Swamp Kings right now.  I don't care if we have to go down to junior high to find a coach who fits the bill...I want a coach who would rather cut off his dick than lose a game.

Justin Fuente

I think I may have brought his name up for OC in the 45 minutes of the job hunt for the OC when Enos was hired. I know his star has fallen but he did build Memphis along with help from Cornrows and Odom. He's 47 years old, currently an analyst for Indiana. Has a background having been coached by John Blake (black santa) and Pittman knows all them guys from those days. Probably has a relationship with Fuente.

He fucking flamed out big time at Va Tech so I wouldn't want him as Head Coach...but as an OC maybe there's something there. I don't know. Maybe a Gary Patterson/Fuente marriage in Arkansas...

I'm guessing Sam is just going to give Guiton a list of plays he has permission to run. We need to fuck the fear turkey and find out what lies beyond the Pittman era.

A coach that I haven't seen mentioned that would be a realistic homerun hire would be Klieman from K State. He's produced everywhere he's been and is the only coach to have success in Manhattan Kansas outside of Snyder. We need someone who can overcome similar challenges here.

Agreed.  People seem to be focused more on the other Kansas coach Leipold.

Many fans (and in the past, decision makers) have focused on getting recruiters.  That's trying to win a battle that is unwinnable.  No matter who we hire, we aren't out-recruiting at least half the teams we play.  We have to find someone who can take three stars and either develop them into four and five stars, or who can outscheme the coaches who rely on superior talent.  The Jimmies and Joes simpletons won't like this, but it's fact that has been borne out over our program's history.
Perish peacefully in a warm environment.

The elf's word salad today is the talking point that Enos was the whole problem and went rouge and Sam would have fired him sooner but Odom left for UNLV and wasn't here to tell him to fire him. Seriously?

Judas. He hired Enos (despite Sam touting all his coaching connections and thus multiple options) which really makes one wonder who will he be able to hire this time especially when Sam says firing Enos does NOT "solve all our problems, we have line issues, back issues, running route issues, tight end issues. Dan took the blunt of it be we all haven't been coaching as well." Plus there is no idea who QB1 is next year.

Who the hell worth a damn is going to want to work for that dead man walking?
Check your damn blood pressure!

exactly

You have 85 scholarships.  With the portal you don't have to develop everybody 2 years before they can play.

If you have 50 guys who can play including specialists and you are a smarter strategist you ought to be able to beat anybody, at least more often that every 17 years plus.  That gives you 35 slots for some portal misses and local want-to-be-here guys and OLs to develop.  You probably have enough slack for 10-15 misses on your roster at any time.

Of the teams that play Bama does anybody else have a longer losing streak among them of those who play them regularly?

That answers the question of who we are.  Close doesn't count with them because they know they can dick around and still beat us and we are layer in the year so they don't need to make an impression by them.

The other thing is someone absolutely cold-blooded about trimming the scrap.  That should be easy for anybody getting money who is not getting on the field.
Splash 11! drop ABE track, too confusing

I didn't click on the Facebook link when it came up, but found it laughable that he was on queue to say it was a bad hire. Just like when we fire Nutt, Bret, and Chad, He waits till it is safe to criticize hiring "fill in the blank."

I expect another one, when we fire Lasso Tits.

Some idiot thinks we can't afford to fire Pittman and giving him another year will motivate him to do better to get the a better buyout than the $11 million, if he loses out this year.

Hey, it's 2023. A man can go rouge if he wants. NTTAWWT.

But seriously, that's believable that he couldn't make a decision quickly enough. Heck, he probably burned all his phone minutes for the month trying to fire Enos by repeatedly dialing Dan's number and hanging up before he answered.

Sam sounded like a guy wanting to clean up the kitchen and serve a good last meal before closing shop.  I don't think he's planning on being here by his choice, regardless of what HY might do.  He can live real good on what he's got and he'll get a going away bonus.

He's been around football long enough he knows that bar winning out, he's done.

The Whyte Boar

He is an idiot if at his age and with his money he wants to come back. I don't think he does.

I do think it would be important for him to go out as a winner snd setting aside that first year, if he can win one more he can go out at .500.  If he can somehow win a couple, he can go out as a winner.  I'll bet that is important to him.

$5 million more important reasons.

We should not be looking for any coach that we wanted...check's notes...TWENTY YEARS AGO.

Ship has sailed. Let's look for the next hot young up and coming coach that we will want but which the powers-that-be will snub so that he will harbor a grudge against us as a rival coach that beats us almost every year.

THAT's the Arkansas way.

Nah, he is going out on his own and he'll accept a reduced buyout to get it done.  The one thing he DOES NOT want is to have to come back and coach next year.

No shit.  I don't think he's going anywhere.

We just need to embrace that our program is going to have to eek out an existence on the margins of the SEC and we need to gamble on potential offensive innovation.  I don't even care, Slow-mesh, option, Pistol- whatever is fine as long as we have a coherent long-term strategy.

Having a talent discrepancy like we do is a hard pill to swallow, but it's worse when even though the stars align and we manage to have a returning senior QB we just end up being dogshit because we didn't actually have a coherent offensive philosophy to begin with.

As far as Sam goes, we are paying the price for not having a HC with either OC or DC abilities.  We will continue to have instability in the program because too much of the philosophy will be contributed by coordinators who also call the plays.  Best case scenario for him is so unlikely, he'd have to absolutely nail hires over and over again.  This does not seem likely.

Give me the biggest nerd in the room and I want to hear his plan.

with texass and ou leaving the b12 at the end of the season, it's going to be hard to ask a successful coach from that conference to come to a middle to lower end sec program.

klieman won the b12 last year and the path will be that much easier with those two teams gone.

Realized this is essentially the John L. year in terms of the gap between expectation and reality.

Except Smile actually won 2 SEC games. I was personally there for a beatdown of Kentucky. I am pretty sure that was his year; with the other win being Auburn.
